  • Drafts and completes grant applications according to application requirements. Ensures grant is submitted on time and within application parameters. Completes all documents, forms, or reports required by the grant. Coordinates the monitoring and evaluation of programs and projects that are funded by grants.
    Assist in providing grant conformity with laws, stipulations, regulations governing contracts, grant monitoring, and program and financial reporting.  Perform professional administrative functions coordinating, facilitating, monitoring and maintaining all grant agreements entered into by the Brevard County Sheriff's Office.  
    Employee is expected to use considerable initiative and independent judgment in the performance of regular technical tasks. Work is performed under the general direction of the Finance Director.  The tasks listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional related tasks as necessary.
    • Locate, develop, write, submit, coordinate, and perform financial reporting of grants.
    • Research, identify, develop, and respond to public and private grant opportunities.   
    • Identify public and private sources of potential funding to support the strategic mission of the Sheriff’s Office.
    • Attend meetings to be aware of opportunities for partnerships and to build potential partnering relationships.
    • Research special projects (i.e. law enforcement, new technologies) to provide leadership with information to determine the benefit of possible agency initiatives and summarize findings in a clear and unbiased manner.
    • Plan, conduct, and attend meetings with project managers and other partners to ensure goals are well identified and able to be met.
    • Consult with Agency's legal counsel, legal representatives and Staff in the resolution of problems or concerns associated with agreement or service expectations.
    • Serve as the primary resource for pre-award and post-award grant related questions including grant and/or contract guidelines, federal regulations, compliance, and interpretation, of federal laws governing grant funding.
    • Enforces specifications, initiates renewals, provide discrepancy resolution recommendations.
    • Assist in monitoring and evaluating grants, contracts, and other initiatives to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and internal Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Serve as liaison for federal, state, and local representatives, and grant/contract administrators.
    • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of submitted invoices, provides accountability of services rendered and staffing in accordance with contract requirements.
    • Maintain agency records including grant reporting and files of agreements and contracted services.
    • Review and approve programmatic and fiscal performance of grants and prepare budget modification and/or grant extensions.
    • Must adhere to Federal, State, County and Local ordinances.
    • Performs other duties as required when assigned.
    • Regular, dependable and punctual attendance is an essential function of this job.
    • A high school diploma or possession of a GED certificate
    • Five years of experience involving duties concerning research, writing, or submission of grant applications or proposals and/or program administration assessment.
     
    OR
    • An associate’s degree from an accredited college or university
    • Three years’ experience involving duties concerning research, writing, or submission of grant applications or proposals and/or program administration assessment.
     
    OR
    • Bachelor Degree from an accredited college or university. 
    • Two years’ experience involving duties concerning research, writing, or submission of grant applications or proposals and/or program administration assessment.

     Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (specific proficiency in Microsoft Excel).
    • Strong work ethics with an attention to detail
    • Good verbal and written communication skills.
    • Reconciliation of bank account and account analysis experience preferred.
    • Preference will be given to those candidates with Governmental Accounting Experience
    • Friendly, courteous, professional, and customer-service oriented.
    Work is performed in an office environment; work is completed during normal business hours (Monday through Friday 8am - 5pm); fluctuations in work hours, if any, are minimal.

    During an emergency, the Sheriff will determine who is considered an emergency responder and whose work is necessary to maintain the operation of law enforcement and correctional facilities. This determination is subject to change based on staffing and the operational needs of the agency.

    Successful completion of a criminal background investigation including polygraph, reference/employment/neighborhood checks. submit to screening for illegal drug use prior to assuming position and will be subject to return to duty, post-accident and/or random and reasonable suspicion drug tests while employed with BCSO.
