DIRECTOR OF GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS
Reports to: Vice President of Regional Affairs
Status: Regular, Full-time, Exempt
Location: Anchorage, AK
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Government Affairs will be responsible for developing short- and long-term legislative strategy to protect The Aleut Corporation (Aleut) business interests, public and private partnerships and our shareholders. This cross-functional position will collaborate with the Communications Department for management of public messaging and with the Legal and Compliance Department for analysis of laws and proposed laws and work closely with Vice President of Regional Affairs to build relationships with local, state, and federal government and private partners.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Represent the organization's interests by communicating its stance on legislative and regulatory matters.
• Study and analyze legislative issues of importance to Aleut, including but not limited to federal funding for environmental cleanup efforts, fisheries legislation, and other similar matters.
• Develop and implement advocacy strategies to influence government decision-making.
• Recommend proactive responses and mitigation strategies.
• Lead and coordinate lobbying efforts, including preparation of briefing materials and testimony for legislative hearings.
• Engage in outreach to legislators and their staff to educate them about Aleut's priorities and positions.
• Organize and participate in meetings, conferences, and advocacy events as requested.
• Assist in the development of government affairs strategies, goals, and objectives.
• Work with the Communications Department to manage public messaging and media relations related to government affairs, and with the Legal and Compliance Department to align government affairs efforts with organizational objectives.
• Assist senior management and leadership with strategic planning for known and potential regulatory activities related to the business, industries, region and our shareholders.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with members of federal, state, and local government entities and agencies.
• Join trade associations and industry committees and seek leadership roles.
• Collaborate with industry advocates to build areas of common interest.
• Prepare testimony for senior leadership before government committees in support of the organization, region and/or shareholders, and/or provide such testimony as requested.
• Introduce legislative and public policy changes that will support company operations and/or needs of our community partners.
• Approximately 20-30% travel time required.
• Perform other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor of Business Administration or other related degree; OR an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
2. Five (5) years work experience in a related position to include three (3) years managing a large team in a similar environment.
