    Performs a mixture of basic and routine investigative assignments under the direction of the supervisor or senior investigator. Conducts basic regulatory investigations in the DUI/DWI Investigations Program to assess the reliability, loyalty, suitability, and trustworthiness of FAA certificated airmen that could adversely affect the safety of the National Airspace System (NAS) and public.

    Completes preliminary investigations and Enforcement Investigation Reports (EIR). Prepares an evaluation of the facts, circumstances, and background information including a concise analysis and summary of facts for any regulation violated. Provides customer service to customers and participates in agency outreach programs. Serves as a focal point-of-contact for investigations forwarded to the FAA’s Office of Chief Counsel for legal enforcement action and related enforcement proceedings.

    Responsible for the identification and collection of documentary evidence related to the allegation such as airmen certification documents, police/arrest records, Department of Motor Vehicle records and various court records. As needed, conducts telephonic subject interviews, and attend NTSB hearings. Enters precise data and records in investigation tracking systems and utilizes various automated systems and databases for information gathering in support of the investigative process. Selects, interprets, and applies established policies/procedures and a variety of guidelines, manuals and standard reference material in accomplishing tasks. Works under detailed instructions with little or no room for discretion.

    Refers unusual or highly sensitive issues to the supervisor, other managers or appropriate staff for assistance when guidelines are not clear. Personal contacts involve other managers and staff within the office, other ASH program offices, and staff in other FAA offices, agencies providing records and evidence, and the public.

    Work is reviewed frequently to ensure appropriate factors have been considered, sufficient information or evidence has been gathered to support conclusions, and pertinent regulations and precedents have been applied. Completed investigator reports are reviewed for conformity with policy, the appropriateness of the employee’s approach, technical soundness, and adherence to deadlines.


    Work supports the ability of ASH to accomplish critical mission responsibilities and support agency key goals and objectives in ensuring the protection of FAA facilities, national security information, secure telecommunications, ensuring a safe and secure work environment for the agency, and maintaining the safety of the NAS.

    Qualifications

    To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-F, FG/GS-9 level. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

    Specialized experience is defined as:

    • Experience collecting, correlating, or evaluating applicable documentary evidence and/or testimony related to investigative reports. Experience analyzing documentary evidence to ensure compliance with laws, statutes or regulations.
