FIRE CAPTAIN jobs in California

FIRE CAPTAIN manages a team of firefighters. Ensures all equipment is properly maintained and serviced. Being a FIRE CAPTAIN directs training and conditioning activities. Administers the staff work schedule to ensure adequate coverage. Additionally, FIRE CAPTAIN leads and coordinates responses to fire events, hazardous material incidents, auto accidents, and search and rescue operations. Prepares post-incident reports as required. Leads or coordinates fire safety education and inspection activities. Typically is required to pass periodic physical ability tests. May require registry in NREMT. Typically requires an associate degree in fire science. Requires Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Basic. Typically reports to a manager. The FIRE CAPTAIN manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a FIRE CAPTAIN typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     The Captain(s) serve under the direct supervision of the Senior Chief Officers. The primary duties are to safely respond to and manage incidents. Responsible for and supervises the daily duties of the shift, may supervise multiple stations, equipment, and all personnel below the rank of Captain.

    PREREQUISITES:
    Current Foresthill Fire District Engineer or three years full time fire service experience with at least one year as a driver operator/engineer. Prior supervisory experience desirable.

    A valid California Class B or C license with FF endorsement (Class B preferred).
    Current EMT or Paramedic.
    CSFM-FF1, Haz Mat FRO, ICS 100 and ICS 200, NIMS 700.a, NIMS 800.b.
    CSFM Fire Officer (pre-2016) or CSFM Company Officer eligible.

    Probationary period will be 12-months.
    Copy of all Prerequisites must be included with the application.
    Must complete Company Officer Series within probationary period.

    • Annual Salary / Step 3 to Step 5
    $89,343.07 - $94,783.83 (EMT)
    $94,720.52 - $100,161.28 (Paramedic)

    • Includes 9% District Contribution to 457 Retirement Plan and FLSA
