Field Engineer - Construction delivers on-site technical oversight support to provide engineering guidance and monitoring for construction projects. Monitors construction progress and conducts daily site inspections to ensure work complies with time, budget, quality, safety, and regulatory requirements. Being a Field Engineer - Construction follows quality control procedures and inspection protocols to ensure that standards, designs, blueprints, and specifications are understood and followed. Troubleshoots technical issues that arise on-site and consult with architects, contractors, and supervisors to develop and implement solutions with minimal disruption to project schedules. Additionally, Field Engineer - Construction documents construction activities using logs, progress, and inspection reports and regularly updates status to project managers. Attends project meetings to provide technical input and present recommendations to improve construction processes. Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Field Engineer - Construction work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     We are adding Construction Field Engineers to our team in our Portland, Oregon region.  Are you ready to work on Landmark projects and make an impact? That’s what we do at Kiewit! Your functions will include both office engineering functions like contract administration, project planning and scheduling, and project reporting, as well as Field Engineering/Resident Engineering functions. #LI-LW1

    District Overview

    Kiewit’s Northern California District is one of Kiewit’s leading infrastructure districts specializing in various types of work in the heavy civil, power, transportation, and water resource markets.     Location

    Although this opportunity is with Kiewit’s Northern California District, we do work across the United States and require our employees to be open to relocation.  We offer opportunities to work at various locations within the Northern California area, and anticipate future positions in Portland Oregon, and Washington State. We offer relocation assistance to job sites or per diem/travel options, but this role does require you to go where the projects are! 

    Responsibilities

    • Assist in interpretation of drawings and specifications for field crews and craft supervision
    • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work
    • Assist in the preparation of work plans and work packages
    • Assist in field surveying and work layout support including elevation, control points, and compilation of as-built data
    • Assist in compiling, processing, and confirming daily labor timesheets
    • Assist in the preparation of Job Hazard Analysis (JHA’s)
    • Participate in jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training
    • Order and schedule material deliveries
    • Plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite
    • Supervise field operations
       

    Qualifications

    • 2 years' construction field experience, preferably in Heavy Civil construction (roadway, concrete, asphalt, earthworks, Bridge, Rail, Water or Wastewater)
    • Work experience in engineering and leading engineers
    • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering, construction management, or related
    • Ability to read, analyze and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
    • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
    • Ability to travel and relocate as needed
    • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
    • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
    • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
    • Passion for safety, with the ability to help us ensure that nobody gets hurt
    • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills 
    • Team player with the ability to work independently to meet deadlines, goals and objectives
    • Strong organization, time management, and attention to detail
