    What You Will Be Doing:
    The Field Auditor represents the Division of Employment and Training Services Unemployment Insurance (UI) Tax section in Anchorage providing excellent customer service, including tax payer education and assistance. Auditors possess superb organizational skills and the ability to work independently with critical deadlines. Auditors work with all kinds of businesses and governmental agencies.

    The primary functions of this position will be:
    • Audit employer records to ensure compliance with Alaska laws and regulations.
    • Work with a diverse cross section of communities across Alaska.
    • Educate employers on Alaska statutes and regulations.
    • Collect dues on delinquent accounts.

    The Field Auditor 1 works independently and audits employers' accounting and payroll records to determine if wages are reported accurately and Unemployment Insurance (UI) taxes are computed and paid correctly.

    • Auditing: Knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards and procedures for conducting financial and compliance, economy and efficiency, and program audits.
    • Interpersonal Skills: Shows understanding, friendliness, courtesy, tact, empathy, concern, and politeness to others; develops and maintains effective relationships with others; may include effectively dealing with individuals who are difficult, hostile, or distressed; relates well to people from varied backgrounds and different situations; is sensitive to cultural diversity, race, gender, disabilities, and other individual differences.
    • Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards, and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting), including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.
    • Self-Management: Sets well-defined and realistic personal goals; displays a high level of initiative, effort, and commitment towards completing assignments in a timely manner; works with minimal supervision; is motivated to achieve; demonstrates responsible behavior.

    Education and/or experience in accounting, financial auditing, or a closely related field.

    “Competencies” means a combination of interrelated knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

    “Training” and “education” in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom, on-line, self-study, and on-the-job), from accredited and unaccredited sources, and long duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

    “Typically gained by” means the prevalent, usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
