Conducts testing that assesses cardiovascular and metabolic effects of exercise for cardiac and musculoskeletal rehabilitation. Being an Exercise Physiologist follows testing protocols and selects appropriate testing protocol for the patient. Monitors patient during testing. Additionally, Exercise Physiologist calculates and records testing results. Coordinates with cross-functional patient care teams. May design exercise prescriptions, instructional materials, home exercise guidelines, and discharge instructions. Conducts exercise training sessions for patients. Requires a bachelor's degree in exercise physiology. Typically reports to a manager. The Exercise Physiologist work is generally independent and collaborative in nature. Job Summary: The exercise physiologist is responsible for establishing baseline data regarding exercise tolerance and progressing the patient through the program with prescribed exercises. Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to develop a plan of care, provide education and ensure optimal outcomes for patients enrolled in the cardiopulmonary rehab program. Serves as an advocate for the patient and maintains a working liaison between the medical, administrative, and cardiac rehab teams and other departments. Additional duties coordinating with coworkers to maintain equipment and supplies while staying within the operating budget, collaborating to develop departmental policies and procedures, providing relevant and current patient education , and contributing to the continued growth of the cardiac rehab program. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected. Performs other related responsibilities as requested. Reports to the Director of the Heart Center.
