    Overview

    The Sr. Director, Enterprise Architecture will be responsible for facilitating the overall enterprise technology roadmap and leading the architecture governance, including the company's digital PFX platform/channels designed to deliver an omni-channel personalized experience for Planet Fitness members and prospects, Data and Analytics, Member Management/POS, and Salesforce. As our Sr. Director, Enterprise Architecture, you will lead the enterprise architecture strategy to ensure the ongoing expansion and evolution of all platforms to effectively enable the company’s short- and long-term business goals.

     

    The Sr. Director, Enterprise Architecture will also be responsible for formalizing the enterprise technical blueprint and architecture processes at Planet Fitness, including defining short and long-term technical architecture strategies and solutions across all key technology teams, setting architecture standards and development principles, leading an architecture review board, evaluating new technologies and methodologies, and will work to minimize tech debt throughout the development lifecycle and product roadmap.

     

    The ideal candidate for this position will have previous experience in payments systems for large scale transactions processing.

    Responsibilities

    • Lead the planning, design, and implementing of the enterprise digital architecture strategy, implementation, and related processes.
    • Provide oversight and guidance over architecture designs ensuring solutions are scalable, stable, secure, cost effective, and supports current and future business needs.
    • Drive solutions architecture design and articulate architecture solution options to product owners and technical and business leadership.
    • Lead initiatives to integrate solutions across multiple vendors and in various geographic locations globally.
    • Mentor and participate in multiple technology function design initiatives.
    • Create and maintain architecture standards, policies, and procedures.
    • Ensure technology decisions align with enterprise architecture standards and strategy.
    • Analyze the current technology environment to detect gaps in capabilities, identify opportunities to improve scalability, stability, reuse, reduce complexity and costs.
    • Understand technology trends and the practical application of existing, new, and emerging technologies to enable new and evolving business needs.
    • Facilitate the research, evaluation, and selection of software technology and product standards, as well as the design of standard configurations and technology platforms and determine fit within the enterprise architecture.
    • Lead a team of architects and participate in various governance committees and review boards to lead the definition of standards, guidance, and principles.
    • Participate in strategy definition, implementation planning, and large project estimation efforts.
    • Develop and maintain reference architecture artifacts and views that describe the technology landscape, processes, and design patterns.
    • Define high-level migration plans to address the gaps between the current and future state that are well-aligned with the technology budget.
    • Coach team members to support their understanding of the architecture and aids in their technical development.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related technical field
    • Minimum of 10 years of experience in software and data engineering, with at least 4 years in an architect role
    • Previous experience in payments systems for large scale transactions processing
    • Demonstrated previous experience working in consumer and retail environments launching large scale solutions with consumer impact
    • Demonstrated experience leading matrix organizations to develop architecture policies and practices to ensure high reliability and performance
    • Demonstrated experience in partnering with IT security leadership to include security first practices as part of design solutions
    • 3-5 years of experience developing solutions and architectures in international environments
    • 3-5 years of experience in solutions delivery and testing in consumer retail environments
    • Vendor evaluation, cost benefit analysis and contract input experience
    • 5 years of experience leading software and data engineering teams
    • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with the suite of AWS products and services and with cloud design patterns and containers - AWS Solutions Architecture certification(s) is a plus
    • Experience with designing and developing consumer and retail technology systems with high levels of integration across multiple platforms.
    • Experience with user centered design, domain driven development, and extreme programming techniques
    • Experience developing, integrating, and testing software, including 3rd party applications
    • Experience transforming legacy, monolithic applications into cloud native applications (micro-services or containers) that run on commercial platforms
    • Experience with container technologies and container orchestration is essential
    • Experience architecting an event driven system of micro-services that work together to achieve a mission result, and in contract testing across micro-services
    • Experience evolving architectures including Application Interfaces (APIs), events, and integrations
    • Experience with cloud and on-premises data and analytics engineering, architecture, and best practices
    • Experience with Agile development methodologies (Scrum, Lean, etc.)
    • Ability to independently design and deliver large, complex projects
    • Demonstrated ability to analyze business direction and problems, understand long-term vision and risk in developing strategic technical solutions
    • Ability leading the formation and execution of enterprise architecture practices, process, and documentation
    • Extremely detail-oriented, efficient, and organized with an exceptional ability to establish priorities and objectives
    • Exceptional presentation and communication skills along with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization, including executives
