    Our Dispatchers dispatch emergency service calls 24-hours per day, 365 days a year for public safety agencies in Archuleta County.

    This essential role ensures community safety through effective communications duties supporting Police, Fire, Sheriff's Office, and EMS agencies.

    JOB SUMMARY :

    Answers emergency and non emergency calls and dispatches public safety, fire, and emergency medical services. Performs leadworker duties such as administrative tasks to ensure maintenance of operational functionality, input and assistance in hiring and training new-hires, quality assurance and improvement (QA / QI), and shift supervision.

    Provide lead accountability for other employees within work unit, which may include scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, instructing / training in work methods, and providing input into hiring and performance evaluation processes.

    Coaches, guides, and mentors trainers and assists with training new personnel, as needed, in work procedures and department policy.

    Assists Emergency Communications Director with annual evaluations and performance reviews, as needed, for appropriate staff.

    Acts as first level of conflict resolution for personnel on shift; records and researches complaints from citizens, user agencies and Center staff.

    Handles emergency, non emergency, and informational phone calls from citizens, law enforcement agencies and officers, and regional user agencies.

    Prioritizes calls for assistance and dispatches appropriate personnel in order of urgency and availability of manpower. Monitors status and locations of units.

    Enters, updates, and retrieves information from a variety of computer systems.

    Monitors multiple phone lines and radio channels simultaneously.

    Performs duties pursuant to policy and procedure manuals for all user agencies.

    Maintains accurate up to date files and logs. Performs record keeping, filing, and general administrative work in support of the Communications functions.

    Alerts Emergency Communications Director of significant incidents.

    Communicates with user agency command staff and field units alongside Emergency Communications Director to address issues and problem-solve through operational requests and updates.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be qualifying.

    Education - Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.

    Licenses and Certifications : CCIC / NCIC operator, CPR Certification, Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) certification, APCO CTO or Supervisory Course or equivalent.
