EEG Technician performs electroencephalograms in accordance with established practices and procedures. Attaches electrodes to the patient. Being an EEG Technician records impulse frequencies and differences in electrical potential between various areas of the brain to obtain data for use in the diagnosis of brain disorders. Provides preliminary diagnostic evaluation and notifies neurologist of results of examinations. Additionally, EEG Technician consults with neurologist to establish requirements for non-standard examinations and determines technical factors to satisfy requirements. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The EEG Technician works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. To be an EEG Technician typically requires 1-3 years of related experience. (Copyright 2024 Salary.com)

    The Neurodiagnostic Technologist/ Neuro EEG Tech will work within our Neurology Dept. which offers a full range of specialized, comprehensive services ranging from neuro-intensive care to outpatient consultations for people with conditions such as stroke, headache, epilepsy, movement disorders, memory disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, sleep disorders and neuromuscular problems. The Neuro EEG Tech performs electroencephalograms (EEG) to facilitate the diagnosis and treatment of cerebral impairment.

    • Calculates and analyzes standard and special procedure test results.
    • Provides preliminary report for use by physicians.

    Hours:

    • Full Time (40 hours)
    • Day Shift; 12:00 pm - 8:30 pm
    • Weekend work required

    Neuro EEG Technician Experience/Requirements

    • Knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts typically acquired through completion of a Bachelors degree in anatomy and physiology, biological sciences or closely related field.
    • Graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) accredited Electroneurodiagnostic (END) program
    • A minimum of one year of previous experience as an EEG Technician or equivalent experience in a related field is required, if a CAAHEP approved program in EEG Technology was not completed.
    • Credential in electroencephalography (R. EEG T.) by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic & Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).
    • BLS Certification

    Neuro EEG Technician Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    • Requires a comprehensive understanding of electroencephalography, including (but not limited to) procedures such as: neonatal, pediatric, & adult EEG; cEEG/ long term monitoring; EEG in Wada & PET; and cerebral death exam.
    • A proficient level of understanding would normally be acquired through a year or more of experience as an EEG technologist, or through graduation from a CAAHEP or ABHES program.
    • Ability to perform testing independent of direct supervision and to maintain a high degree of credibility through accurate analysis and interpretation of test results.
    • Analytic ability is required for analyzing patient history to determine proper testing procedures, for calibrating equipment, troubleshooting malfunctions, eliminating recording artifacts, calculating test results, and composing preliminary reports.
    • Interpersonal skills are necessary for exchanging information with patients, physicians, office staff, or records personnel.
    • Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to acute medical situations, i.e., convulsive seizures.
