Diet Technician provides assistance in all food service functions to ensure compliance with patients' prescribed nutrition plans. Screens and identifies patients with nutritional risk using scoring guidelines, and initiates referrals for dietetic assessment. Being a Diet Technician institutes basic nutrition plans including individualized menu plans. Accurately edits patients' menu selections according to nutrition standards to ensure patients receive food that is compliant with diet orders. Additionally, Diet Technician monitors intake and acceptance of required meals and supplements. Tracks patients' food intake and calorie count results. Requires an associate degree. Typically requires Dietetic Technician - Registered (DTR). Typically reports to a dietitian. The Diet Technician works under moderate supervision.   • Process food orders for patients. The Diet Clerk may work in any location on client premises. These responsibilities may differ among location, depending on business necessities, client requirements, and applicable industry standards.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Process Room Service customer orders including patient/family-initiated orders and those patients needing assistance.
    • Assist patients with telephone call backs or personal visitation as needed while ensuring adherence to all diet orders.
    • Review computer printout to determine which patients have not placed an order for that meal period, and initiate telephone or personal contact as appropriate.
    • Document number of meals served each day.
    • Take phone calls and fax orders for all food requests.
    • Receive requests for diet changes via computer, fax, or written format during downtime.
    • Make necessary diet changes, keep order system software updated.
    • Follow standard procedures for diet patterns.
    • Coordinate processing of AM and PM nourishment orders and print AM and PM nourishment labels.
    • Process orders for patient requested nourishments.
    • Coordinate delivery of all tube feeding and oral supplement orders.
    • Provides assistance with tray assembly as needed.
    • Perform all work in a safe and sanitary manner.
    • Maintain all workstations in a neat and organized manner.
    • Respond and cooperate with changes in workload.
    • Notify supervisor concerning need for major repairs or additions to equipment.
    • Comply with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures.
    • Report all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
    • Participate in regular safety meetings, safety training, and hazard assessments.
    • Apply all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work.
    • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
    • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated.
    • Regular attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
    • Uniforms must be worn in accordance with dress code requirements.
    • Utilization of assistive devices for lifting is mandatory.
    • Implement DRH Standards of Behavior and exhibit behaviors consistent with DRH core values.
    • Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications: Ability to effectively communicate with others. Basic ability to use technology related to job duties and responsibilities. Ability to effectively follow applicable regulations, policies, and/or procedures. Ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays. Ability to adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position. Attention to detail.

    Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or equivalent or work-related experience preferred. Must have basic phone and computer skills (email, texting, etc.). Ability to read information on papers and computer screens. Knowledge of proper and safe use of applicable custodial equipment.

    Certifications, Licenses, Registrations: Oklahoma food handler’s permit preferred. For those positions requiring travel, a current valid driver’s license and automobile liability insurance must be maintained. Blood borne pathogen training.
