Diesel Mechanic jobs in Florida
Diesel Mechanic performs inspection, maintenance, repairs, and overhauls of diesel engines. Troubleshoots and diagnoses problems. Being a Diesel Mechanic utilizes computer electronics systems to interpret failure modes. Replaces and/or refurbishes parts. Additionally, Diesel Mechanic maintains maintenance logs according to requirements. Ensures services provided follow all quality standards and safety procedures. May perform DOT annual inspections on vehicles. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically requires Commercial Driver License (CDL) - Class A. Typically requires a Certificate in Automotive & Diesel Technology. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Diesel Mechanic works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. - Examine vehicles to determine extent of damage or malfunctions
- Repair, reline, replace and adjust brakes
- Review work orders and discuss work with supervisors
- Follow checklists to ensure all important parts are examined and other potentially troublesome areas
- Plan work procedures using charts, technical manuals and experience
- Communicate with driver to obtain descriptions of vehicle problems
- Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services
- Repair manual and automatic transmissions
- Replace and adjust headlights
- Comply with all safety, DOT and OSHA guidelines
- Adhere to company rules and regulations
- Ensure cleanliness of shop and surrounding areas

Qualifications :
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 1 year recent medium / heavy diesel maintenance experience
- Must have own hand tools
- Basic computer skills
- CDL license preferred
- Good driving record and proven work history
- Must be able to work in extreme heat and cold temperatures
- DIAGNOSTIC EXPERIENCE IS A PLUS
