    Position Summary:

Vermont Law and Graduate School (VLGS), a national leader in environmental law and restorative justice, invites applications for a Visiting Professor of Law to join our Energy Clinic for a one- or two-year visitorship. The Energy Clinic is part of the Institute for Energy and the Environment (IEE), which is a national and world energy policy resource with an advanced energy law and policy curriculum focused on a clean energy future.

The visitor’s duties include teaching clinic classes year-round to juris doctor, masters, and LLM students and supervising those students in their work on transactional legal matters and a wide range of other renewable energy related projects from policy work to low-income solar project development. The visitor will report to the Director of the Energy Clinic and play a supporting role in working with the Director of the IEE and other Energy Clinic faculty in the operation of the Energy Clinic and the IEE. The visitor will join a vibrant and supportive clinical community at VLGS.

The ideal candidate will be available to start in time for the Fall ’24 semester, though the precise start date is flexible. The candidate must be a licensed attorney with at least three years of experience who is active and a member in good standing in New Hampshire or can waive into New Hampshire for bar licensing purposes. A significant portion of the Clinic’s low-income solar project development work is done in our neighboring state of New Hampshire. VLGS will consider applications with broadly defined expertise in energy law, land use law, and municipal government advocacy. Candidates should demonstrate evidence of or potential for strong, innovative, and engaged teaching.

Visiting professors do not have service obligations but are encouraged to engage with other professionals and the public to contribute to the intellectual exchange of ideas, improve the law, and educate the public about the law, with an eye towards social justice. VLGS is in South Royalton, Vermont, a small town on the bank of the beautiful White River. Less than thirty minutes away lie the amenities of the adjacent communities of Hanover, NH (home to Dartmouth College) and Lebanon, NH. Burlington, VT, Boston, MA, and Montreal, QC, are all within a three-hour drive.
