Dean of Arts and Sciences manages administrative functions of the college of arts and sciences. Develops college strategic initiatives and participates in university long-term planning and policy setting. Being a Dean of Arts and Sciences leads college in fundraising and cultivating relationships with donors. Provides senior level administrative leadership in areas of curriculum development, institutional assessment and improvement, human resource, faculty development and performance appraisals, budget and finance, and facilities planning and management. Additionally, Dean of Arts and Sciences requires an advanced degree. Typically reports to top management. The Dean of Arts and Sciences manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure.   • PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Provide leadership and strategic vision to the Departments in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences.
    • Collaborate with and provide administrative leadership to the Associate Dean of Nursing.
    • With the assistance of the department chairs and program coordinators, recruit and hire nursing and health science full-time faculty.
    • Evaluate nursing and health science full-time faculty and leadership staff.
    • Develop and oversee the budget for the School of Nursing and Health Sciences to ensure sustainability of programs.
    • Advise and collaborate with faculty on curriculum changes.
    • Support the School by providing leadership and guidance on project management, development and implementation.
    • Serve as the primary liaison between the Department of Nursing and all relevant state, regional, and national nursing accrediting, advisory and regulatory bodies.
    • Provide leadership and oversight for the Vermont State University efforts to expand nursing education around the state.
    • Ensure the integrity and quality of annual program assessment, through coordination and mentorship of program faculty.
    • Oversee compliance in all nursing programs with national accreditation standards and state board of nursing administrative rules and regulations, including delegation or completion of and submission of annual reports, mid-cycle reviews and other documentation as required.
    • Coordinate and schedule a state-wide nursing Advisory Board Council meeting, comprised of key constituents and leaders that represent the voice of the profession.
    • Establish, support, maintain and build new relationships with clinical partners, cooperating agencies, community groups, and other key stakeholders as needed.
    • Keep abreast of current developments and trends in the field of nursing and nursing education through professional development opportunities.
    • Serve on related committees and/or boards and participate in state, regional, and national affiliations in the best interest of the nursing program.
    • Represent the School of Nursing and Health Sciences as a legislative liaison and serve as a spokesperson to media.
    • In conjunction with Admissions and School of Nursing and Health Science personnel, provide program leadership that promotes program growth by implementing best practices to increase enrollment, recruitment, and retention.
    • Support the development of facilities, equipment, and educational resources to support and ensure implementation of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences programs with appropriate faculty input.
    • Provide strategic direction for grant writing.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    General supervision is received from the Provost.

    SUPERVISORY REPSONSIBILITY

    Direct supervisory responsibility for full-time and part-time School of nursing and Health Science faculty and staff.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

    • Strong knowledge and skills related to the field of nursing and health sciences, nursing education and clinical nursing practices, theories, and methods.
    • Knowledge of program accreditation requirements and accreditation experience with CCNE, CNEA and/or ACEN.
    • Knowledge of classroom practices, teaching methodologies, assessment systems, educational technology and equipment.
    • Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with others to develop strategic and short-range plans and oversee the execution of these plans.
    • Strong financial acumen and stewardship and knowledge of budget development and management principles
    • Interpersonal skills to develop strategic relationships with community and regional partners.
    • Skill in the delegation of responsibility and authority.
    • Skill in problem solving and making timely decision.
    • Skill in managing a variety of tasks with frequent interruption and competing priorities.
    • Creates a positive and inclusive working and learning environment.
    • Ability to build strong professional networks and extend Vermont State University’s community outreach.

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    • PhD, DNP, or Ed.D
    • Possession of or ability to readily obtain state certification as a Registered Nurse.
    • Academic nurse educator certification (CNE®) or Academic clinical nurse educator certification (CNE®cl) or plan to attain within six months of hire.
    • Experience with the grant writing process (federal, state and private).
    • Teaching in higher education.
