Performs data mining, cleaning, and aggregation processes to prepare data, implement data models, conduct analysis, and develop databases. Being a Data Scientist interprets results from multiple structured and unstructured data sources using programming, statistical, and analytical techniques and tools. Collaborates with teams to understand each data analysis projects' underlying purpose, focus, and objectives. Additionally, Data Scientist designs, develops, and implements the most valuable data-driven solutions for the organization. May require a master's degree in computer science, mathematics, engineering or equivalent. Typically reports to a manager. The Data Scientist work is closely managed. Schwab’s Analytics & AI Center of Excellence is a hard-working, fun team of 40 that supports multiple business units across the firm with quantitative-based decision support. Our mission is to help our business partners better understand the needs and behaviors of our prospects and clients through data science, analytics, and business intelligence.
The Data Scientist will work collaboratively with a team of data scientists, analytics leads, engineers, and product owners throughout a project lifecycle, including data extraction and preparation, design and implementation of algorithms, and creating solutions that solve real world problems.
In This Role, You Will- Get hands-on with large disparate datasets, hack through complex and messy data, and analyze it leveraging the latest algorithms and state-of-the-art techniques and tools.
- Use open-source tools and platforms like Anaconda Enterprise & Python to apply data science algorithms and analytic models to big data problems.
- Apply Natural Language Processing to client interactions to better understand their needs and how to best serve them.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand their needs, articulate how data science can help achieve objectives, and deliver regular updates.
- Collaborate with Data Science Engineers to operationalize models.
Statistics and Mathematics: Knowledge of advanced techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.). Ability to understand model performance.
Machine Learning: Knowledge of and experience with designing and implementing algorithms (clustering, decision tree learning, GLM/Regression, Random Forest, Boosting, Trees, Network Analysis, etc.), and the ability to articulate their real-world advantages and drawbacks.
Natural Language Processing: Knowledge of NLP concepts, including recent Generative AI developments and hands on experience in building text classification models. Experience extracting and cleaning unstructured text data for model building
Business Acumen: You understand the bigger picture for customers and the business and know how to probe beyond stakeholders’ stated requests to really understand their needs and the value of information.
What you have
Requirements- Graduate degree in a quantitative field (e.g., Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Operations Research, etc.)
- Documented experience in working on platforms/environments such as GCP, Tableau, and SQL
- 6 years’ experience in delivering data science solutions/services
- 3 years experience in Python, data engineering, analytics role
- Software engineering and code versioning skills
- Data visualization experience
- Proactive, critical thinker, bias to action and a go-getter attitude
- Experience with optimization techniques
- Enthusiastic quick learner who loves to code
- Experience in financial services industry
