Sr. Business Credit Underwriter

  • The Sr. Business Credit Underwriter will report to the Manager of Commercial Loan Underwriting in the Business Services Division. The Sr. Business Credit Underwriter will be involved in a broad range of activities related to the underwriting of complex large dollar commercial and industrial (C&I) requests which includes inclusive of working capital lines of credit, equipment financing, owner occupied real estate, construction, investor & project type real estate loans and loan participation.

    What you will do here:

    Works closely with the Business Relationship Managers to assemble relevant loan information to determine the appropriate loan structure which entails performing a comprehensive business financial statement analysis, business financial statement spreading, preparation of a pro forma balance sheet and projected statement of revenue and expenses, income tax analysis, debt service analysis and comparison of each to RMA ratios.

     Comprehensive analysis of the applicant's personal financial statement, income tax and debt service will be completed as well as determining their credit worthiness.

    Underwrite and complete annual reviews on a large volume of credits annually including portfolio term loans above $1 million and participation loans.

    Perform a detailed collateral evaluation and preparation of a narrative Credit Approval Memorandum for the loan transaction. Completes renewals for maturing revolving lines of credits and loans as necessary.

    Performs activities necessary to support business development, credit review writing, loan negotiation, legal review, and loan funding of all business loan products offered by Desert Financial.

     Maintain financial, tax return, and borrowing base tickler systems as well as follow up systems for balloon payments and term loan updates.

    Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

    What you will need:

    High School Diploma or GED required.

    Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    5 years of experience with financial spreading software, financial statement analysis, tax analysis, commercial credit reports, and/or the Uniform Commercial Code required.

    Strong knowledge of business lending in commercial and industrial category, real estate lending inclusive of owner occupied, construction, investment real estate (multi-family, office, warehouse, retail, and self-storage) required.

    Ability to prepare income producing property analysis, analyze complex rent rolls, apply CAP rates, vacancy rates, and other analytical metrics associated with income property lending required.

    Detail oriented, highly organized, ability to oversee high volumes of loan production while maintaining multiple priorities with overlapping deadlines required.

    Communication skills – ability to effectively communicate and present information both in person and over the phone, effective written and verbal communication required.

    Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word required.

    Must multi-task and possess high level of attention to detail required.
