The Dean of Creative Arts and Design is the instructional leader for one of seven academic focus areas of the College. Responsibilities include leadership of program disciplines including studio arts, design, interactivity and media arts, fashion design, interior design, photography, and video/audio communication arts. This position supervises full-time and adjunct faculty, providing leadership in development and implementation of interdisciplinary activities. The Dean refines and develops strong communication mechanisms within the academic area and across the college and throughout the community. This position solves complex problems in an open and collaborative manner, facilitates the review of existing programs and timely development of new program offerings with faculty and community members for the college.
ESSENTIAL POSITION FUNCTIONS:
1. Provides administrative direction and instructional leadership for designated Academic Affairs Area.
2. Supervises faculty and staff for designated program areas.
3. Collaborates with other academic deans, faculty, and staff to develop systems that support learning and coordinates efforts to refine the packaging and delivery of course offerings.
4. Provides leadership in the development and implementation of interdisciplinary activities throughout Academic Affairs.
5. Uses a variety of communication approaches to exchange information with faculty, Academic Affairs staff and other offices throughout the college.
6. Conducts and oversees evaluation processes for personnel and programs.
7. Participates in the hiring and orientation of new faculty, both full and part-time, with the intention of creating a team of diverse, high quality instructional personnel.
8. Participates in community and civic organizations.
9. Assists the Vice President for Academic Affairs with faculty and student issues.
10. Coordinates with other areas of the College to refine systems related to the technology-enhanced delivery of course offerings.
11. Coordinates the annual budget for designated area.
12. Consistently and dependably attends work, activities, and functions as scheduled or assigned.

1. Knowledge of instructional development procedures.
2. Knowledge of monitoring and evaluating programs.
3. Knowledge of current office software and operating systems as well as course management software.
4. Skill in planning and organizing as well as ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
5. Skill in supervising, training, and evaluating staff.
6. Communications skills, both written and oral; excellent spelling, grammar and editing skills.
7. Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to handle sensitive situations.
9. Ability to work well with minimal supervision in a team-oriented environment.
10. Ability to train, evaluate, mentor and direct employees and managers to meet desired objectives.
11. Ability to manage by example. Must possess excellent leadership and interpersonal skills.
12. Ability to maintain professionalism, patience and understanding in stressful situations.
13. Ability to effectively work and interact with various cultures and ethnicities.

Required Qualification
Master’s degree in one of the content areas of the division (Art, Design, Photography, Video Production, Audio production), Education Administration, or related field plus five years of experience in higher education including classroom teaching and supervisory/administration experience (community college preferred).
Preferred Qualifications Physical Demands
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
Salary/Hourly Rate Commensurate based upon experience Department Creative Arts & Design
