The Department of Medical Education has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Director, Continuing Medical Education, Continuing to work in Miami, FL. The Director, Continuing Medical Education oversees and plans the ongoing development, management, administration, and evaluation of the University’s continuing medical education program. Moreover, the incumbent develops and implements new policies and procedures in response to accreditation or associated guidelines and regulations. Oversees on and off-campus programs, activities, faculty affairs, and academic support services. Develops and implements strategies to attract and retain students and faculty. Ensures that the curriculum remains current and is in compliance with accreditation standards. Makes recommendations to leadership for improving the continuing education program. Supervises the departmental budget and manages expenditures throughout the year. Develops and establishes institutional policies and procedures for academic and non-academic issues. Maintains knowledge of current or pending regulatory changes and policies that may have institutional impact on the School’s overall CME program and on individual CME activities. Authors and prepares CME accreditation applications for all CME programs. Promotes educational programs, internationally representing the University at conference and events. Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field Minimum 5 years of relevant experience Knowledge of business and management principles. Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations. Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan. Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others. Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others. In-depth knowledge of relevant accrediting bodies (e.g., ACCME/AMA, APA, MOC and ANA, regulations related to CME accreditation processes Ability to direct internal teams in the execution of all stages and types of initiatives as they relate to departmental and organizational goals and objectives by applying diversified knowledge in broad areas of assignment. Strong leadership and management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate teams. Excellent Communication and Interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Knowledge of adult learning principles and educational technology with strong computer skills and an understanding of learning content management systems. Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry trends in healthcare and medical education DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS The Director of Continuing Medical Education (CME) oversees all aspects of a fast-paced continuing education program for healthcare professionals within the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. This role involves strategic planning, program development, marketing, fiduciary responsibility, implementation, and evaluation to ensure the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based educational activities that meet the needs of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. The incumbent in this position will provide tactical and operational leadership for the school’s overall Continuing Education Program, and will represent the school at local, regional, state, national, and international levels. This includes directing all CME programs and planning and implementing the requirements for a World-Class internationally recognized program. The Director will be a permanent member of the School’s CME Advisory Committee. The Director of Continuing Medical Education plays a crucial role in advancing the professional development of healthcare professionals and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient care. The Director of CME is responsible for maintaining accreditation standards, fostering partnerships with accrediting bodies, and internal and external faculty, building relationships within the medical school and beyond, and staying abreast of industry trends and regulatory changes. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Ensures compliance with all accrediting boards including ACCME (American Council for Continuing Medical Education), American Psychological Association (APA), and American Nursing Association (ANA). Maintains knowledge of current or pending regulatory changes and policies that may have an institutional impact on the school’s overall CME program and/or on individual CME activities. Develops and implements new policies and procedures in response to changing accrediting policies and associated guidelines and regulations. Develops and establishes institutional policies and procedures for academic and non-academic issues regarding CME. Provides leadership and oversight for all CME activities sponsored, co-sponsored, and jointly sponsored by the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Works with national and international associations and organizations in the design, implementation and evaluation of jointly sponsored CME activities; assumes responsibility for meeting accreditation standards and guidelines for all jointly sponsored activities. Implements new educational activities and advises faculty in the development or modification of specific CME activities. Assists in the preparation of CME accreditation applications for all CME programs, whether CME-managed, department-managed, jointly, or co-provided. Oversees program management, including production of promotional and course materials, and negotiation of vendor contracts. Provides leadership and direction for accreditation issues and reviews; as needed, resolves legal and ethical issues relative to the Standards for Integrity and Independence in Accredited Continuing Education and assists in mitigation of conflict-of-interest issues. Develops and maintains long-term relationships with medical thought leaders, academic medical centers, commercial educational supporters, and scientific organizations to achieve mutually beneficial goals that ultimately improve the education of physicians, nurses and other health professionals. Develops CME Division short and long-term goals and a supporting annual budget ensuring fiscal responsibility and adherence to financial targets. Develops and implements innovative approaches to medical education including but not limited to World Wide Web, videoconferencing, and audience response systems. Directly responsible for CME Division staff including interviewing, hiring, counseling, training, evaluation, and supervision. Develops annual plan for CME programs and conducts assessments and evaluations of the overall CME program. Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including medical staff, educational leaders, and administrative teams to support CME initiatives and oversee the marketing and promotion of CME programs to target audiences. Establish and maintain partnerships with external organizations, educational institutions, and industry stakeholders to enhance CME offerings. Work with stakeholders to ensure that content is evidence-based, relevant, and addresses emerging trends and best practices in healthcare. Other duties as assigned.
