Program And Position Summary
Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps (ALCC) engages motivated young adults, ages 18 - 30, to complete challenging and impactful conservation and service projects throughout the western United States. Projects may include trail construction & maintenance, habitat improvement, hazardous fuels reduction, re-vegetation, historic preservation, and local environmental service projects. ALCC provides opportunities for members to learn about and connect with the environment, issues surrounding conservation, and local Indigenous values.
ALCC crews work in a variety of National Parks, National Forests, and other public areas. Selected members are placed on a crew which will then collaborate to perform project work. ALCC is a non-residential program and does not offer housing. Gear and equipment rental is available upon request.
Placed on historically A:shiwi territory, Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps Zuni Office is within the center of the Zuni Village. The ALCC Zuni office is comprised of local staff and community member participants leading the mission of ALCC. We, at ALCC-Zuni serve to impact and enrich all relatives and ecosystems here in Halona I:diwana (the Middle Place) & beyond and teach our participants of how we play an integral role as future knowledge keepers and stewards of the land. Established in 2016, ALCC Zuni is dedicated to fostering the youth of the Zuni tribe and neighboring communities and providing them the skills and tools to lead their Nations back to ecological and cultural well-being. We nurture partnerships with various National Parks and Public Lands in the Southwestern United States, and we aim to cultivate partnerships with other Peoples and Nations.
Farm Technician Position Description
The Acoma Farm Technician is a branch of our Farm Corps Program we have here at the ALCC Acoma Office. We will be planting/growing native plants and food for the community involving constant care for the field and participation in field maintenance. Work may include but is not limited to: Removal of weeds from the field, irrigating the field and tool maintenance at the end of each day. Participants will receive training in traditional agricultural practices and contribute to the production and distribution of fresh produce for community members of Acoma Pueblo. The participants will be exposed to the elements of regular New Mexico weather, which may include but is not limited to severe weather in some conditions and will have to advise staff of any stand down situations that may occur.
Leadership & Mentorship- Manage, supervise, and lead the day-to-day details of Farm work.
- Implement skills training on worksite and facilitate intentional discussions with crew
- Promote individual corps member development and a healthy community
- Facilitate crew member development via one-on-one check-ins and debriefs
- Mentor and assist Crew Leaders via delegation and constructive feedback
- Must be willing to follow and enforce all ALCC policies, maintain professional boundaries, and appropriately represent the program, include maintaining a substance-free work environment
- Train and motivate a crew of 4-5 young adults to efficiently complete farm goals set by partners and staff
- Delegation of project work & investment among crew
- Manage the on-the-ground quality and quantity of project work
- Monitor and track tool and equipment inventory
- Establish tool and equipment maintenance routines
- Effectively coordinate logistics with project partners, crew members, and ALCC staff
- Monitor, manage, and promote the crew’s physical and emotional safety on and off the work site
- Promote culture of safety by facilitating safety briefings and standdowns
- Communicate and manage field incidents with ALCC staff
- Initiate On-call or emergency medical services in the event of injury or incident
- Transport crew and equipment safely in ALCC vehicles with trailers
- Report project accomplishments by measuring and documenting outcomes
- Compile notes and documentation pertaining to crew work hours, group and member dynamics, and incident management
- Notify staff of farm needs for credit card purchases, to manage, document and report all purchases.
- Work with staff to identify the goals and ideas for the overall farm corps program

- Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Required to drive an ALCC vehicle; must have an insurable driving record
- Must be able to speak, understand, read, and write English
Required Experience
Minimum Experience and Qualifications:- Experience in facilitating and building community with diverse groups of people
- Must have a High School diploma or High School Equivalency Degree
- Must be 21 or over, have a clean driving record and a current driver’s license
- Must successfully complete a criminal history check. All offers are contingent upon successful completion of criminal history check process.
- Demonstrated project management experience in farming or The Farm Corps Program
- Familiarity with Leave No Trace (LNT) principles
- Current Wilderness First Aid, Wilderness First Responder, and/or CPR certification
- Experience with ALCC or other conservation corps or youth corps
- Experience with experiential and/or environmental education
- Leadership experience with youth and/or young adults
- Experience working with the vulnerable population of people, i.e. children and the elderly
