Compensation Director is responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing evaluation of the organization's compensation programs, including base pay, incentive pay, and performance management programs. Leads the compensation function and works with senior management to ensure that compensation strategy and programs support the organization's business objectives, meet all legal requirements, and deliver value and equitable pay. Being a Compensation Director develops compensation budget for assigned areas and manages budget after it is approved. Establishes data collection and analysis processes for market, pay equity, and other compensation studies. Additionally, Compensation Director may be responsible for entire organization or for one or more major segments of a larger organization. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require a Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification. Typically reports to a head of a unit/department. The Compensation Director typically manages through subordinate managers and professionals in larger groups of moderate complexity. Provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility. May give input into developing the budget. To be a Compensation Director typically requires 3+ years of managerial experience. Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments.     The Compensation team is responsible for being a steward of our Pay for Performance philosophy which directly connects individual, business and company results to employee compensation.  As the Lead Compensation Partner for our Global Client Business (GCB), this role will work closely supporting our Sales and Client businesses and will also contribute to the global policies and practices across the firm.

    As a member of the Global Compensation team at BlackRock, you will work with a team of professionals in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. The role will support senior executives, cross functional partners, and HR Business Partners to deliver solutions that drive business results and advise on all aspects of BlackRock's compensation programs.

    Key Job Responsibilities:

    • Become a trusted partner and provide strategic and analytical support for the design, implementation, and administration of global compensation programs, working with senior leaders, colleagues, and partners across BLK

    • Independently navigate through a variety of complex problems by leveraging deep relationships with stakeholders

    • Lead the GCB annual planning, preparation, and process of allocating the corporate bonus pool and base salary budget at year-end

    • Build a strong partnership with teams and individuals both inside and outside of HR / Reward, including finance, tax, legal, and others to help synthesize information for senior leaders around forecasting and budgeting

    • Report on compensation trends, outcomes and provide insights through out the year and at year-end

    • Additional duties will include driving the development and implementation of other firm-wide and business-specific initiatives

    • Lead and mentor more junior colleagues

    • This role is a critical role for HR / Reward and will have direct management responsibilities

    Skills and Requirements:

    • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent).

    • Advanced proficiency with MS Excel required – nested “if” statements, formatting, analyzing large amounts of data, etc.

    • Compensation/Finance experience or related field desired (financial services and/or consulting experience preferred)

    • Deferred compensation experience preferred

    • Strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills

    • Extraordinary communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex concepts simply to various audiences

    • Strong project and time management skills, with an emphasis on being organized, detail-oriented, deadline-driven

    • Demonstrates discretion in handling confidential information and interfacing with senior-level leaders

    • Demonstrates leadership qualities that are inclusive, curious and open-minded

    • Possesses a self-starter work ethic yet thrives in a collaborative environment

    • Ability to navigate through ambiguity and remain flexible and adaptable amidst change

    • Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (e.g., Workday, etc.) preferred


     

    For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $230,000. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
