Communications Director directs an organization's internal and external communications strategies and programs. Directs and oversees communications programs that effectively describe and promote the organization and its products. Additionally, Communications Director requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Communications Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Communications Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.     Job Summary
    The director of communications is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies and effective messaging for internal and external audiences. Manages and provides support for a diverse portfolio of communication tools. Collaborates with district and school leadership to deliver compelling and impactful narratives that build positive connections with the district.

    Annual Salary: Grade 7: $75,143.95- $105,538.99, DOE
    Work Day: 8 hours
    Work Year: 12 months

    Job Qualifications

    The following are required:

    • Bachelor's degree OR four years of relevant work experience OR any equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • Effective team player with excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate diplomatically and professionally with a wide variety of stakeholders.
    • Demonstrated computer skills relevant to disseminating information; MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Docs, Google Sheets.
    • Proven ability to plan, organize, prioritize and effectively manage multiple projects concurrently while maintaining high attention to detail and broad perspective.
    • Experienced in communication practices and tools, including: websites, email/newsletters, social media, video, print ads, radio ads.
    • Ability to work well independently and handle stressful situations effectively. Ability to maintain confidential information.
    • Able to attend evening Board of Education work sessions and regular meetings and be available outside of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm hours for emergency communications.

    The following are preferred:

    • An additional three (3) years of experience in communications, journalism, or related fields.
    • Media relations experience.
