Commodity Manager implements a commodity procurement and inventory strategy that supports a company's manufacturing supply chain. Manages the policies and processes to purchase raw materials required to process and manufacture products, conduct research, or enable other business activities. Being a Commodity Manager monitors and analyzes the commodities market, global economic conditions, and events to make informed purchase decisions. Identifies, evaluates, and monitors suppliers and develops relationships to provide reliable sourcing and ensure the quality and availability of required commodities. Additionally, Commodity Manager oversees bidding and contract negotiations to obtain the best pricing to meet commodity needs. Analyzes inventory levels, manufacturing schedules, and long-term business objectives to plan and manage purchases. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulations and standards governing the purchase and delivery of goods. Requires a bachelor's degree in business, supply chain management or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Commodity Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be a Commodity Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.   • Position Purpose:

    Experienced purchasing professional who performs the strategic purchasing function for assigned commodities, projects, and/or new product development programs to ensure realization of company business objectives. Recognized by the organization as a subject matter expert in at least one key commodity. Works cross-functionally with all functional groups to manage supplier related opportunities and threats. Responsible for developing optimal supply chain solutions for assigned purchased commodities. Takes an active role in improving processes and procedures to improve the overall effectiveness of the department. Requires significantly less guidance and is more self-sufficient than the Commodity Buyer role.

    Essential Functions:

    · Lead material cost reduction activities for assigned purchased material. Expected to independently identify cost reduction opportunities on a regular basis.

    · Takes steps to minimize excess and obsolete inventory when usage is decreasing and negotiates to reduce costs when usage is increasing.

    · Identifies and leverages opportunities by developing and managing contractual relationships as needed.

    · Develop, foster, and enhance multi-departmental relationship(s) between Hendrickson Truck and key suppliers.

    · Closes open supply base related issues efficiently and effectively.

    · Assess current supply base on an on-going basis and recommend changes/alternatives that reduce purchased material cost, supply chain risk and/or add higher value to purchased components.

    · Monitor the marketplace for assigned commodities to identify trends, technology advancements, risk mitigation strategies, and cost-efficient alternatives to the status quo.

    · Lead cross-functional analysis to prepare recommendation(s) for make vs. buy decisions.

    · Consistently collaborates with other Hendrickson divisions to identify and leverage total spend and/or standardization opportunities that will reduce overall costs to Hendrickson.

    · Ensure an uninterrupted supply of materials to production facilities through strategic management of the supply base.

    · Completes risk analysis and risk mitigation projects to protect Hendrickson supply.

    · Completes all purchasing tasks involved with the engineering change request process on-time (e.g., RFQ, negotiation of costs and timing, supplier PPAP, etc.).

    · Coordinate all aspects of Hendrickson “Warranty Recovery” Program regarding established warranty parameters for assigned commodities.

    · Clearly documents relevant information about assigned parts and suppliers per department documentation guidelines.

    · Maintains pricing agreements for all assigned purchased material and resolves any invoice discrepancies in a timely manner.

    · Monitor and account for all fluctuations in purchase price variance (PPV) for assigned purchased material.

    · Other duties as assigned.

    Education and Training

    · Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.

    · Purchasing concentration preferred.

    Minimum Qualifications

    · 3-5 years of related purchasing supply chain work experience in a multi-plant manufacturing environment

    · Competence with Microsoft Office software required.

    · Familiar with and working experience in an IATF-16949 or other Quality regulated manufacturing environment.

    · Demonstrated negotiation success.

    · Proficient in reading blueprints for engineered components.

    Physical Demands

    · Frequent sitting and working at computer for extended periods of time.

    · Minium of 25% travel required

    · Office setting.

    · Minimal exposure to R&D lab and manufacturing setting.
