Commercial Credit Analyst collects, reviews, and analyzes data to prepare a detailed credit analysis that evaluates the terms and creditworthiness of commercial loan applications. Uses multiple sources of information, including financial statements, collateral appraisals, credit scores, and cash flow analysis, to assign risk ratings to loans and complete an analysis of the applicant's financial status. Being a Commercial Credit Analyst calculates debt-to-income (DTI) ratios to evaluate an applicant's ability to repay the loan. Prepares credit memos in a standardized format that includes key ratios, supporting information, an executive summary, and objective recommendations. Additionally, Commercial Credit Analyst presents credit reports to loan officers and loan committees. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Commercial Credit Analyst work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role.     The Commercial Credit Analyst II position is responsible for analyzing credit and financial reports to determine risk involved in loaning money or extending credit to individuals, businesses and institutions. Scrutinizes financial data such as tax returns, balance sheets, income statements, personal financial statements, appraisals, and environmental reports to evaluate risk and ability to repay. Completes timely and accurate annual reviews and potential site visits on borrowers with business loans to assign appropriate risk ratings and identify any deteriorations or change in capacity to meet terms and related covenants of the loans. Prepares reports to summarize the financial status of borrowers, quality of collateral, and generally accepted elements of loan presentations. Underwriting approval authority is granted up to a maximum amount as stated in Business Loan Policy. Ensures compliance with Credit Union policies and procedures, NCUA guidelines, and all applicable state and federal laws.

    The duties of a Commercial Credit Analyst II include, but are not limited to:

    Credit Analysis

    • Using department workflow solutions to perform independent credit analysis, which includes the analysis of any and all applicant financial statements, tax returns, profit & loss statements, spreadsheets, account receivables, collateral analysis, and any other type of financial documents deemed necessary for completion of the analysis.
    • Assisting the Commercial Loan Officer in ensuring all financial information is collected for the credit analysis process.
    • Communicating any additional documents needed to loan officers and members to successfully complete a full financial package necessary for adequately defining the Credit Union’s risk related to a loan decision and assigning proper risk ratings to each loan.
    • Keeping up to date with innovative and best-practice cash flow solutions within the industry
    • Seeking to create efficiencies in the cash flow analysis for the credit union.
    • Following all Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulations during the cash flow process.

    Credit Approval Memo

    • Prepares Loan Presentation memos using the information obtained in the credit analysis. This includes --
      • A clear and concise summary of the borrower structure, borrower/co-borrower/guarantor experience and credit history
      • Credit Union loan and deposit relationship summary
      • Detailed explanation of the loan request along with sources and uses of cash flow
      • Identification of the primary source of cash flow and any secondary sources and analysis of the cash flow summary with any visible trends
      • Capital strengths and weaknesses of the applicants
      • Summary of any collateral
      • Economic, environmental, and geographical conditions present that may directly impact the credit
      • Risk rating analysis
      • Listing of strengths, weaknesses and pending items
    • Anticipating Member Business Lending Committee questions and building them into the Loan Presentation form.
    • Conducting site visits of collateral from time to time to add to the Loan Presentation.
    Annual Reviews

    • Performing annual reviews of existing loans in the portfolio, including a reassessment of the risk of the loan relationship. The annual review consists of a full underwrite of the loan, including a new cash flow analysis of updated financial data.
    • Assisting in the collection of financial information for annual review purposes and managing Annual Review tracking, reporting progress to the Commercial Lending team.

    Communication

    • Working directly with the Commercial Lending Manager, the SVP of Commercial Services, and the Commercial Loan Officer(s) to manage the commercial loan portfolio.
    • Maintaining constant and consistent communication with the team members of the department. Effective and efficient communication is a primary function of this position.
    • Collaborating closely with additional Commercial Credit Analysts to manage the analysis of the commercial pipeline.
    • Communicating directly with member and non-member loan applicants.
    • Working with the Commercial Loan Officer(s) to present loans clearly to the Member Business Lending committee for decisioning.
    • Offering guidance, support and knowledge to other staff, demonstrating strong communication skills with limited direction or supervision.
