    Duties:  

    • Perform as the clinical coordinator for the lab, this includes overseeing and providing clinical expertise to the lab personnel and projects. 
    • Gather insight from rat lungworm patients regarding the treatment and management of short and long-term symptoms of the disease, including interventions such as traditional and alternative medical treatments and non-invasive and invasive medical procedures.
    • Supervise the hiring of qualified personnel.
    • Assist with acquisition of appropriate permits.
    • Coordinate with collaborators to conduct experimental rat lungworm studies in animal models.
    • Independently perform research activities assigned by the principal investigator
    • Conducts, and supervises studies related to rat lungworm disease. 
    • Perform work requiring the use of specialized equipment such as Operetta imaging system, compound, inverted and fluorescent microscopes and additional equipment as needed.
    • Train, assist lab personnel and/or students with various molecular techniques such as PCR, viability staining techniques, and high-content imaging with instruments such as the Operetta. 
    • Supervise and oversee student researchers and their projects. 
    • Perform data analysis and write scientific manuscripts.
    • Assist the lab manager in conducting day-to-day lab activities.  
    • Performs other duties as needed.  

     

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • PhD in health-related fields from an accredited University, with at least one year of postdoctoral research experience. 
    • At least three years of experience with the treatment and prevention aspects of parasitic infections including rat lungworm disease. 
    • Familiarity with PCR high-content imaging systems.
    • Proficient in scientific writing and manuscript preparation. 
    • Demonstrated ability to efficiently communicate with rat lungworm patients and physicians. 
    • Demonstrated ability to supervise student researcher and lab personnel projects.

     

    Desirable Qualifications:

    • Doctor of Philosophy (PharmD) with at least three years of training and experience in the management of infectious diseases, particularly cerebral parasites. 
    • Experience in conducting experimental studies using animal models.
