Job Title: FORMULATION CHEMIST for disruptive beauty product

Location: Rochester, MN or Remote for right person

Rion Aesthetics is seeking an experienced and dynamic Formulation Chemist to join our fast-growing startup team. Formulation Chemist will be responsible for developing new cosmetic products for (plated) Skin Science from concept to commercialization that support company growth.  (plated) is a leading platelet-derived exosome technology sold in physician offices.  This position will also enhance and improve upon current portfolio of 5 SKUs.  This individual serves as a technical expert that supports product improvements, quality improvements, customer requests, and cost savings initiatives.  They are also responsible for formulation and generation of representative pilot samples for internal and external customer evaluations through the use of appropriate scale-down process models.  Other duties include process optimization and product enhancement activities.

• Formulates new products leveraging proprietary exosome technology HPE (Human Platelet Extract), from development to commercialization, within defined company, industry, and regulatory parameters
• Ensures safety and stability of formula meets Rion Aesthetic’s standards for release
• Previous experience in liposomal formulations
• Establishes guidelines and criteria for acceptance and testing of chemical raw materials in finished blends
• Evaluates raw materials from various sources and ensures the raw material reaches safety standards and desired efficacy signatures
• Develops specifications for new and/or reformulated product
• Creates Project Timelines in accordance with Rion Aesthetics commercialization priorities, sets milestones/critical path and ensures on time project completion
• Operates within company’s Quality Management System
• Participates in team driven activities to facilitate ongoing production improvements or new product development projects
• Recommends adjustments to meet formulation challenges 
• Performs scale up for transition to manufacturing
• Documents laboratory and notebook data and record keeping including study plans, spreadsheets and trouble-shooting related to formula development
• Conducts physical and aesthetic assessments of product characteristics, including measurements and specifications to determine product acceptance, stability, and shelf life criteria
• Maintains a finished formula sample retention program, including periodic review of product shelf life
• Maintains all appropriate laboratory equipment to acceptable standards and calibration
• Works within the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
• Evaluates technologies brought from third parties in order to continually improve our product
• Prepares product registration documentation and product chemistry packages to meet regulatory requirements
• Responsible for batch production from pilot scale to process validation
• Performs additional special projects as assigned

• Masters degree or PhD in Chemistry
• 5 to 7 years technical experience in chemical industry (cosmetics or other) or pharmaceuticals
• Experience with HPLC testing and other stability testing methods
• Proven problem solving skills and track record of successful technical accomplishments
• Excellent organization skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision
• Broad range of experience in formulation preparation and testing in the laboratory
• Strong verbal communication and documentation skills
• Ability to keep detailed records
• Strong understanding of cGMP guidelines and FDA regulations related to the cosmetics and pharmaceuticals industries
• Prefer experience with FDA and other regulatory agency requirements and/or INCI submissions
