Certified EHR Trainer conducts technical training programs for end users of EHR (electronic health record) software applications. Determines training objectives and creates lesson plans and other materials needed for training. Being a Certified EHR Trainer configures the training environment to ensure end-users can practice using EHR software both inside and outside of the classroom. Designs and delivers new hire training and ongoing user training during system changes and upgrades. Additionally, Certified EHR Trainer may be responsible for implementing a credentialed trainer program that ensures EHR instructors have the required level of system knowledge to effectively deliver training. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. Typically requires Epic/Cerner or similar certification. The Certified EHR Trainer gains exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function. Occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. We provide medical and dental care, with additional specialists in Chiropractic, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychology, Podiatry and Optometry. ACHC Clinics are located across Fresno, Kings and Tulare counties.

    Summary

    The primary function of the Electronic Health Records (EHR) System Trainer is to provide training on Nextgen EHR / i2i Tracks and related systems to all end users. They will assist in the development of training materials, training content, and topics for on-going EHR training based on chart review and input from management and users. They will provide on-boarding EHR training and subsequent trainings on system enhancement/upgrades and related workflows. This position will support any new or upgrade implementation module(s). Implementation tasks will include testing in support environments, redesigning clinical workflows, facilitating end-user application trainings, and supporting go-live activities. They will document and monitor new and existing workflows and their associated procedures. The EHR system trainer will also be involved in the development of necessary policies and procedures and will bring forward related issues that require resolution.

    Responsibilities

    • Provides hands-on initial and on-going training on the EHR system (Nextgen/i2i) and related applications to all staff.
    • Provides feedback on EHR users’ competencies.
    • Provides input into curriculum design/scripts for EHR training, including input for the development of training manuals.
    • Test EHR system updates, existing and new workflows in the release and support environments to verify accuracy before they are put in production.
    • Under the direction of their supervisor, develop and maintain workflows both for EHR’s operational and clinical functions. Documentation includes the writing of new and revised procedures to support the workflows.
    • Develop processes to increase system adoption and streamline patient care.
    • Conducts EHR operational audit as determined by management.
    • Triages customer issues, able to trouble shoot, refer and problem-solve concerns about the EHR application questions and workflow.
    • Provides analytic reporting as required.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

    Education

    • High School Diploma.
    • Preferred completion of a formal Medical Assistant program or License Vocational Nurse program from an accredited institution.

    Experience

    • Industry Experience – Three years of experience in education/training, healthcare, IT, or healthcare operations required.
    • Knowledge of front and back-office utilization of electronic health records systems required.
    • Previous experience with training the Nextgen and i2i Tracks suite of products, preferred.
    • Previous experience working in an outpatient clinic or doctor’s office is preferred.
    • Clinical experience and understanding of health center practice operations required.

    Knowledge/Abilities

    • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are required.
    • Comfortable presenting training material in a group setting.
    • Knowledge of curriculum development and workflow analysis.
    • Strong organization and time management skills are required.
    • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative is required.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite of products is required.
    • Displays courteous and professional behavior in all interactions.
    • Displays flexibility in accepting, changing, or carrying out assignments.
    • Able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
    • Displays sensitivity in a multi-cultural environment.
    • Basic knowledge of CPT, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS), and ICD- 10-CM coding is preferred.
    • Travel required within the Kings, Tulare, and Fresno counties.

    Physical Requirements

    Hearing: Adequate to perform job duties in person and over the telephone.

    Speaking: Must be able to communicate clearly to patients/employees in person and over the telephone.

    Vision: Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and computer screens.

    Other: Requires occasional lifting and carrying items weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted. Requires frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive hand movements (specifically keyboarding and writing), standing, walking, squatting and sitting, with some lifting, pushing and pulling exerted regularly throughout a regular work shift.
