SUMMARY
Operates one or more single blade band saws and iron workers to cut, or punch, metal and metal products to specified
lengths by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Adhere to all ISO requirements as stated in the Management Systems Procedures Manual.
Adjusts and secures ends and backstops on saw table and turns handwheels to space saws and stops, according to specified
length of stock.
Starts saw and places material to be cut on conveyor belt or rollers, and feeds stock into saws, or positions workpiece
against end stop and under saw, synchronizing action with automatically descending blade, or pushes material on table and
cuts metal.
Pulls lever to swing saw through material, or pushes moveable table past saw, or depresses treadle to raise saw through slot
in machine table, or tilts table for angle cut and presses pedal to move saw through workpiece to cut stock.
Replaces dull or damaged blades, cleans, and lubricates machine.
Examines material prior to cutting to determine what cuts will remove defects and produce maximum footage.
Verifies dimensions of stock cut and accuracy of cuts.
Layout and drills or punches end plates and back sheets.
Unloads steel trucks and places stock in proper location.
Maintains and orders proper amounts of stock material
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be very proficient in reading a tape measure.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred, but not required; or one to three months related
experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple
correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and
decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to
deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
