Carpenter constructs, maintains, and remodels buildings or related structures. Installs, fixes, or modifies all aspects of a building, including walls, ceilings, floors, and stairs, as well as related structures like railings, doors, windows, and air conditioning systems. Being a Carpenter follows blueprints and plans to ensure requirements and specifications are met. Observes all worksite safety procedures and guidelines. Additionally, Carpenter inspects buildings to determine repair that needs to be done. An apprenticeship and/or formal training may be required. Typically requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Carpenter works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Responsibilities:
• Measuring, marking and cutting accurate lines on materials using a pencil or chalk line.
• Verify trueness of structure by using a laser, level or a plumb bob.
• Cut, assemble and fasten building materials to construct buildings.
• Follow company safety rules and employee handbook rules.
Main Activities:
• Lay out forms for building footings and foundation walls.
• Pour and finish concrete.
• Frame buildings using either wood or metal studs
• Put building sheathings and siding up.
• Install windows and doors.
• Install cabinets and trims including crown moldings, base and casing.

Demands:
• A carpenter must work outside and inside in all different weather conditions including extreme cold and heat. A carpenter may be exposed to unpleasant sights and smells. A carpenter may be exposed to dangerous chemicals and substances and must take the necessary safety precautions to protect themselves. A carpenter will have to lift and carry heavy objects and be on their feet or knees most of an 8 hour work period.
