    ualr.edu/housingSummary of Job Duties:The Director of Campus Living is responsible for the overall student residential experience and the quality and efficiency of the department's activities. The director oversees all aspects of the department, especially as they relate to budget, finances, contract administration, marketing, occupancy management, and departmental operations for approximately 900 residential students and several rental homes. As a member of the Dean of Students' leadership team, the director participates in strategic planning, assessment, emergency/crisis response, and various campus committees. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.Qualifications:

    Required Education and/or Experience:

    • Bachelor's degree in business management, human resource management, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field with at least five years of work experience in a college/university housing/residence life department;

    • Experience should include leadership and management, strategic planning, financial management, staff selection, training, supervision, program implementation, crisis management, and student conduct processes.

    Preferred Education and/or Experience:

    • Master's degree in higher education administration or a related field with at least seven years of work experience in a college/university housing/residence life department.

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Provide leadership and overall management of department operations which include the establishment, implementation, and enforcement of policies and procedures, development of goals and objectives, application and lease agreements, personnel administration, budgeting, and crisis management;

    • Assist the Dean of Students or Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs as needed;

    • Serve as a department liaison to the following offices: bursar/student accounts, payroll, human resources, procurement, finance, athletics, public safety, counseling, disability resource center, etc.;

    • Monitor and evaluate resident satisfaction to ensure a high-quality residential experience for all students, guests, and summer camps/conferences;

    • Develop, implement, and evaluate viable customer service initiatives and resultant staff training opportunities to ensure excellent customer service for all UA Little Rock constituents by meeting and exceeding visitors' expectations;

    • Respond to and resolve housing matters/complaints from students, parents, staff, etc.;

    • Serve as conduct officer for Campus Living and work closely with the Dean of Students or designee in matters related to residential conduct, which may include recommending removal from residence halls;

    • Oversee and manage the Campus Living software system (StarRez);

    • Develop an overall departmental budget, including proposals for room/apartment rates based on occupancy and costs;

    • Prepare monthly budget and year-end financial reports, adhere to the financial plan, and build proformas and annual budgets while working to achieve revenue projections and profitability;

    • Abide by all policies and procedures outlined by procurement services, particularly with purchasing card(s), contracts, travel, etc.;

    • Provide direction, supervision, evaluation, and training to full-time staff, graduate assistants, resident assistants, and other part-time staff working in Campus Living;

    • Responsible for all business processes related to recruitment, hiring, onboarding, and termination(s) within Workday;

    • Develop and implement departmental policies and procedures, including but not limited to emergency response protocols, crisis intervention, and appropriate referrals;

    • Train staff and provide leadership during crisis situations in Campus Living and the greater campus community;

    • Serve as a live-in staff member and receive complimentary living accommodations on campus in the event of a staff shortage, building crisis, or termination of a building manager/hall director;

    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • Working knowledge and utilization of customized university computer programs (e.g., Workday) and residential life database applications (e.g., StarRez), or ability to readily learn;

    • Knowledge of and experience with financial management, budgeting, departmental operations, office administration, marketing, and summer conferences;

    • Knowledge of and experience with student residential curriculum/programs, including residential education, student development theory, and diversity programming;

    • Knowledge of current trends in university housing/residence life, student development, assessment, learning outcomes, living-learning environments, campus safety, crisis management, programming, diversity, and community development;

    • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills through listening, public speaking, and correspondence;

    • Demonstrate ability to plan, organize, multi-task, and successfully complete projects and events;

    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively interact with diverse university clientele (residents, parents, applicants, campus personnel, etc.);

    • Strong management, organizational, and communication skills;

    • Understand human resource policies and procedures such as hiring processes, classified employee expectations and disciplinary procedures, payroll functions, workers' comp, FMLA, and work-study/student labor issues;

    • Ability to generate ideas and creative solutions as an effective problem solver;

    • Ability to use sound judgment in making independent decisions, consulting with supervisors, and considering input from appropriate sources;

    • Ability to counsel and advise individuals and student groups;

    • Ability to develop, interpret, and apply policies and procedures;

    • High level of integrity, dependability, and exemplary interpersonal qualities marked by a strong work ethic and problem-solving skills;
