Marathon Petroleum Company LP has an opening for a Tech Services – Process Optimization Group – Process Project Engineer at its refinery located in Salt Lake City, Utah. This position is part of an Engineering Technical Ladder with multiple levels. The successful candidate will be placed at a level commensurate with experience and qualifications. We are seeking a motivated, team-oriented Process Engineer to provide technical support for the site and to support new project development and implementation. This includes identifying short- and long-term process changes to improve unit(s) profitability and optimize efficiency. This position will be based out of Marathon Petroleum’s Salt Lake City Refinery in Salt Lake City, UT. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Develop new capital projects with foresight beyond existing assets. Develop project justification and submittals for annual capital budget. Lead refinery energy coordination studies and projects. Track KPIs to optimize refinery energy and water usage. Lead development of projects including PFDs, P&IDs, PDBs, and PSM activities from project Conceptual through Detailed Engineering and Commissioning. Mentor Unit Support Engineers and support the Tech Service group in TAR activities and unplanned emergencies. Provide troubleshooting and optimization assistance to Tech service engineers and Area Teams. Participates in identification of short- and long-term process changes to improve unit(s) profitability and optimize efficiency. Conducts process operations analysis and economic evaluation using simulation software. Must have physical ability to perform all essential job duties and work extended hours, including nights and weekends in process operations environment. Work may be conducted during periods of inclement weather. Must have physical ability to access all areas of the refinery including use of stairs and/or ladders to inspect critical process and mechanical equipment. Must be available to respond to upset conditions during off-hours. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Minimum (Required) Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (or above) in chemical engineering from an accredited institution. Must be authorized to work in the US without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future A valid driver’s license is required Preferred Qualifications 6-15 years of post-degree engineering experience in a refinery or chemical plant with some project experience. Proficiencies: Process simulation (HYSIS, PetroSim, etc), technical writing, PSM knowledge, and a strong understanding of refinery economics and project justification This position belongs to a family of jobs with increasing responsibility, competency and skill level. It is currently posted at a Grade 12-13 level. Actual position title and pay grade will be based on the selected candidate’s experience and qualifications.
