Building and Grounds Supervisor supervises and trains building and grounds maintenance staff. Oversees landscaping activities, the maintenance of sidewalks and parking areas, and the removal of trash and snow. Being a Building and Grounds Supervisor maintains and monitors the operation of all utility systems such as heating, ventilating and air conditioning. May be responsible for the housekeeping staff. Additionally, Building and Grounds Supervisor, a level I supervisor is considered a working supervisor with little authority for personnel actions. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. Working team member that may validate or coordinate the work of others on a support team. Suggests improvements to process, is a knowledge resource for other team members. Has no authority for staff actions. Generally has a minimum of 2 years experience as an individual contributor. This position is located at the Department of Mental Health, CMTNCC Campus, 2200 Harden Street, Columbia, SC 29203.
As the Building/Grounds Specialist II/Supervisor, working under general supervision of the Director of Environmental Services, this position is responsible for supervision of the overall.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:- Orients, teaches and instructs new employees on proper cleaning and sanitation techniques.
- Inspects all areas daily to ensure that safety, sanitation and cleanliness standards are met and to ensure that environment is maintained according to facility requirements.
- Assists in coordinating and supervising Custodial, Housekeeping and Laundry Services in the facility.
- Monitors time and attendance of assigned employees.
- Evaluates job performance of assigned employees.
- Ensures housekeeping laundry distribution area is clean and neat at all times. Dust mopping and/or wet mopping as needed and scheduled.
- Returns laundry equipment and cards to designated storage location, keeping all lanes of operation open and free from clutter.
- Receives, sorts and inspects all clean laundered articles delivered by contracted vendor for proper storage.
- Plans and executes special cleaning project as needed.
- Evaluates and resolves personnel and disciplinary problems/concerns among assigned staff.
State Requirements: Experience in custodial, housekeeping or pest control work that is directly related to the area of employment.
Agency Requirements: A high school graduate with a minimum of two (2) years work experience.
Note: If any Agency Requirements are listed above, applicants must also meet those requirements to be considered for the position.The selected candidate must have the ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and may be required to lift more during emergencies. Must also have the ability to stand, walk, reach, pull, push, stoop, bend and climb at least two or three flights of stairs, tolerate noise level and circulate in resident's areas for long periods. Must be able to work on an environment with repetitive, unusual resident behaviors.
