Duties
As a Biologist your duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Serving as the subject matter expert in Everglades restoration for the South Florida Ecological Services Office.
- Coordinating ecological and hydrological activities in the Everglades and provide technical leadership in the areas of hydraulics, hydrology, hydrogeology, aquatic biology, aquatic ecology, and water quality, quantity, timing, and distribution in the greater Everglades watershed on behalf of the Service.
- Reviewing ecological and hydrologic model output and interpreting the ecological effects of each model run. Additionally, the incumbent will analyze and track flows across the landscape and provide informed decision support on various large-scale projects.
- Working with senior scientists and other federal and state policy and technical personnel to ensure that resource needs are considered in all decisions/actions developed for Everglades restoration.
- Participating in teams and leading the development and writing of assessments and reports including Biological Opinions and Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act Reports.

Qualifications
Only experience and education obtained by 06/13/2024 will be considered.
In order to qualify for this position you must possess both the Basic Requirement and Minimum Qualification.
Basic Requirement:- Degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR
- Combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position PLUS appropriate experience or additional education. As a whole, this combination of education and experience is comparable to successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major as described in (1) above.
Minimum Qualification [GS-12]- One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. Qualifying experience includes: (1) participating in collaborative work groups aimed at fish and wildlife conservation outcomes; (2) utilizing the principles and regulations which govern the Endangered Species Act, specifically Section 7, and other environmental statutes (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Water Resources Development Act); (3) reviewing the policies, procedures, regulations, and statutes pertinent to natural resources management; (4) communicating with various audiences regarding natural resources conservation; (5) evaluating landscape scale ecology, hydrology, and model analysis related to ecosystem restoration and water issues.
Minimum Qualification [GS-13]- One year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Qualifying experience includes: (1) serving as a technical and policy expert on the Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws (e.g., National Environmental Policy Act, Clean Water Act, Fish and Wildlife Coordination Act, Migratory Bird Treaty Act, Water Resources Development Act); (2) coordinating or leading national work groups to develop action plans, manage projects, and produce products aimed at fish and wildlife conservation outcomes; (3) analyzing, interpreting, and dissemination information relevant to the effects of land and water development and other actions on the environment, threatened and endangered species, and critical habitats; (4) coordinating activities with internal and external stakeholders to achieve fish and wildlife conservation objectives; (5) providing technical leadership in the areas of hydrology, aquatic and terrestrial biology, water quality, and model analysis related to landscape scale ecosystem restoration and water issues.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.Education

If any required coursework is not easily recognizable on transcripts, or if you believe a portion of a particular course can be credited toward meeting an educational requirement, you must also provide a memorandum on letterhead from the institution's registrar, dean, or other appropriate official stating the percentage of the course that should be considered to meet the requirement and the equivalent number of units. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable; however, if you are selected for the position, you will be required to produce the original official transcripts.
PASS/FAIL COURSES: If more than 10 percent of your undergraduate course work (credit hours) were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim of superior academic achievement must be based upon class standing or membership in an honor society.
GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

- Ability to explain and defend findings, recommendations, scientific data, and organizational policies and positions on controversial and contentious natural resources management issues to various audiences including government agencies, the public, academia, and lawmakers.
