Biochemist evaluates the physical properties of various living organisms in order to investigate their applications to medicine and other industries. Requires a bachelor's degree and 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Being a Biochemist has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Additionally, Biochemist works under immediate supervision. - Writes technical reports and prepares manuscripts.
- Write experiment reports and prepare manuscripts for publication in collaboration with other investigators.
- Performs lab techniques which study the chemical processes of living organisms.
- Perform assays to validate antibodies western blot analysis, ELISA and immunoprecipitation.
- Conducts research experiments that will determine the effects of food, drugs, serums, hormones, and other substances on tissues and processes of living organisms.
- Conduct routine and non-routine sample preparation/extraction methods for a variety of biological matrices including but not limited to plasma, urine, skeletal muscle and brain tissue.
- Presents findings at scientific conferences and meetings.
- Prepare posters and oral presentations for delivery at scientific meetings.
- Participates in the development of laboratory procedures.
- Work with staff in the design, implementation, interpretation, and reporting of bioanalytical method development and sample analysis.
