Bereavement Coordinator plans and provides bereavement counseling and support to survivors. Assesses individual needs and coordinates with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and deliver a holistic support plan. Being a Bereavement Coordinator guides survivors to appropriate bereavement resources. Facilitates grief support group sessions. Additionally, Bereavement Coordinator requires a bachelor's degree in social work. May require the applicable State License to Practice Clinical Social Work. Typically reports to a manager. The Bereavement Coordinator occasionally directed in several aspects of the work. Gaining exposure to some of the complex tasks within the job function.   • Job Summary:  The Bereavement Coordinator-CLS collaborates with Child Life Manager, Bereavement Community Education Specialist, and Child Life Services, in planning, implementing, and facilitating a bereavement program to offer support to families experiencing a death of a neonate/child/Caregiver; coordinates and facilitates support groups, reunion and remembrance activities; makes referrals for psychological counseling as deemed appropriate; facilitates and provides grief education and support interventions for defined population. Serves as a resource for Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital (LLUCH) and Loma Linda University Health (LLUH) on grief education; organizes and trains volunteers and LLU students on supporting families, running grief support groups, and providing necessary resources. Develops working relationships with local Family Counseling clinics and other resources in community. Utilizes interpersonal skills to maximize customer service in a manner that supports excellence in customer service, and professionalism; contributes to a work environment of caring and cooperation among a culturally diverse workforce and patient population. Performs other duties as needed. 

    Education and Experience:  Masters’ Degree in child life required.   Five years of experience in children’s bereavement required. One year of experience conducting support groups for children required. 

    Knowledge and Skills:    Knowledge of leading support groups and group process; experience in dealing with grief recovery and mental health issues. Broad knowledge of principles of adult education. Able to read, write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer, printer, and software programs necessary to the position, e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, electronic event reporting program, established organization electronic medical record. Comprehend and follow-through with instructions; operate, calibrate and troubleshoot equipment utilized for position.  Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and enforcing policies; lead, teach, and accept direction; think critically and use good judgment; problem solve and collaborate with licensed care providers as necessary. Work in a challenging clinical environment; demonstrate self-motivation; work independently with minimal supervision; communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; perform basic math and statistical functions; compose written material; multitask and manage multiple assignments effectively; organize and prioritize workload; problem solve; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place; see adequately to read computer screens, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

    Licensures and Certifications:   Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required. Child Life Certification required. Bereavement certification preferred.
