Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. This audiologist group in the Texas Gulf Coast is dedicated to providing patients with total care for diseases and disorders of the head and neck. Our audiology department is comprised of more than 25 audiologists, audiology externs, and support staff who collectively provide a comprehensive range of diagnostic and rehabilitative audiology services. Our audiologists work closely with our physicians while maintaining their professional autonomy and their patient caseload.
Duties Include:
Primary job duties include comprehensive diagnostic testing of adult and pediatric populations, hearing aid consultations along with fitting and verification of hearing aids, patient education and counseling patients about hearing loss and hearing aids/assistive devices, and patient documentation in the electronic medical record. The audiologist will also provide mentorship and training to support staff and/or audiology externs.
Additional clinical and administrative opportunities include tinnitus treatment and management, VNG/ENG interpretation, and participation in departmental steering and representation committees.
Requirements:
Texas State Licensure
AuD or Master’s Degree in Audiology
1-year experience in an ENT practice or contracted with ENT
Preferred two years of hearing aid dispensing experience
