Audiologist evaluates, diagnoses, and treats a variety of hearing, balance, and ear disorders. Administers and interprets a variety of tests, such as air and bone conduction, speech reception, and discrimination tests to determine the type and degree of hearing impairment, site of damage, and effects on comprehension and speech. Being an Audiologist evaluates test results in relation to behavioral, social, educational, and medical information obtained from patients, families, teachers, and other professionals. Reviews charts, test results, and other patient data to understand issues and develop treatment programs to alleviate symptoms and treat disorders. Additionally, Audiologist monitors and evaluates treatment progress and adjusts care plan as necessary. Programs, fits, and adjusts hearing aids for customers. May require Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) in some states. Requires a master's degree in audiology. Typically requires Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A). Requires State License based on Clinical Specialty. Typically reports to a manager. Audiologist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.   • Summary

    The audiologist performs Medical Disability Examinations (MDE) for veterans when they file disability claims for hearing loss and tinnitus through the Veterans Benefits Administration (VBA) as part of the Compensation and Pension Program. Comprehensive hearing exams will require a medical assessment and opinion but no treatment. Opportunities to help America’s veterans are available within Loyal Source Clinics throughout the western United States.


    Pay: $60/hr


    Responsibilities

    • Perform comprehensive hearing examinations (MDE) including air and bone conduction, Stenger testing, speech reception threshold, and word recognition testing
    • Perform and interpret middle ear analysis using tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing
    • Perform otoscopy and cerumen removal management if necessary
    • Conduct electronic medical record review including audiogram history and military noise history
    • Perform medical opinion writing as the subject matter expert for hearing loss and tinnitus claims
    • On-site opportunity in a multidiscipline new clinic using state of the art audiology equipment
    • Maintain patient confidentiality complying with HIPAA and VA rules and procedures
    • C&P hearing examinations are one-time, no treatment examinations


    Requirements

    • Full, current, and unrestricted license in Audiology in the U.S.
    • Master’s degree or doctorate degree from a university accredited by ACAE, CAA, or ASHA


    Preferred Requirements

    • Experience performing C&P exams is preferred but not necessary. Training and ongoing support will be provided.
