    Other Conditions: State extramural funds. Appointment to begin August 2024. Renewal contingent upon satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and program needs. Selectee is required to pass a criminal background check and complete Title XI training.
     
    Duties and Responsibilities
    Teach special education courses and supervise teacher candidates on all islands via a variety of delivery modes (in-person, distance); Participate in on-going curriculum and program development activities; provide service to the department and college; contribute to the University of Hawaii’s mission as being a Hawaiian place of learning. Other duties as assigned.
     
    Instructor Minimum Qualifications

    1. Master's degree in special education or in a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university; 
    2. Expertise in instructional and assistive technology for students with disabilities;
    3. Broad knowledge of K-12 special education; 
    4. At least two years of K-12 teaching experience as a licensed special educator; 
    Assistant Professor Minimum Qualifications
     [In addition to the Instructor Minimum Qualification above]
    1. Doctorate in Special Education or closely related field from an accredited institution; will consider ABD if completed by August 2024; 
    2. Evidence of scholarly research activity focused on mathematics and/or instructional and assistive technology; 
    3. Any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience that provides the required education, knowledge, skills, and abilities as indicated.
    Desirable Qualifications
    1. Experience providing professional development or university coursework for special educators; 
    2. Broad knowledge of evidence-based practices in special education;
    3. Broad knowledge of Universal Design for Learning and technologies for learning;
    4. Knowledge of UHM special education teacher training programs; 
    5. Experience teaching special education in Hawaii;
    6. Experience with nontraditional university student populations from racially/ethnically and culturally diverse backgrounds.
