Assoc. Professor - Special Education teaches courses in the discipline area of special education. Develops and designs curriculum plans to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensures student engagement. Being an Assoc. Professor - Special Education provides tutoring and academic counseling to students, maintains classes related records, and assesses student coursework. Collaborates and supports colleagues regarding research interests and co-curricular activities. Additionally, Assoc. Professor - Special Education typically reports to a department head. Requires a PhD or terminal degree appropriate to the field. Has considerable experience and is qualified to teach at undergraduate and graduate levels and conducts research and case studies in field of interest and may publish findings in trade journals or textbooks. Responsibilities:
- Assist the special education teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students
- Provide support and assistance to students with special needs in various educational settings
- Collaborate with the teacher to develop and modify curriculum materials to meet the needs of students
- Assist in implementing behavior management strategies and techniques
- Support students in developing social skills and promoting positive interactions with peers
- Provide one-on-one or small group instruction to reinforce learning concepts
- Assist with classroom organization and maintenance of a positive learning environment
- Help with lesson planning and preparation of instructional materials
- Monitor student progress and document observations
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework preferred
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable
- Knowledge of curriculum development and instructional strategies for literacy education, math, and other subjects
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles and abilities
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in supporting students' educational growth
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
