    FTE: This position is a combined .50 FTE Assistant Principal and .50 FTE Instructional Coach for a total of 1.0 FTE.

    Salary: Based on experience per position. The salary ranges for each position are as follows and will be pro-rated by FTE.

    Assistant Principal: $43,350.50- $47,851. (Salary shown is based on 2023-2024 Administrator Salary Schedule. Does not include any as yet to be determined cost of living increase for 2024-2025.)

    Instructional Coach: Commensurate with Salary Schedule. (Schedule under negotiation for 2024-2025. Current salary shown here: 2023-2024 Salary Matrix.)

    Benefit eligible; exempt; 210 days as Asst. Principal, 187 days as Instructional Coach.

    Assistant Principal - Elementary

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Assists in the management and administration of an elementary school.
    • Communicates and establishes positive relationships with parents, students, staff and public.
    • Meets the diverse needs of students and staff members in the school by directing and building an appropriate learning environment.
    • Works as a team member within the district leadership and management structure and supports decisions made by administration in an effort to maintain positive staff morale.
    • Fosters a positive school climate.
    • Administers discipline that is fair and appropriate to the misbehavior of students and that is consistent with the philosophy, goals, and policies of the school and the school district.
    • Collects and analyzes data as assigned.
    • Assists in providing explanation and interpretation of school programs, policies, procedures, and laws to students, parents/guardians, staff and the community.
    • Participates in policy and procedural decisions relevant to student and administrative issues.
    • Participates in activities of the school that include parents/guardians, staff, students and the public.
    • Supervises and evaluates both certified and classified staff members in accordance with the supervision model of the school district and in accordance with the negotiated agreements of various employee groups.
    • Maintains instructional expertise in his/her teaching areas through continuous involvement in that subject(s) curriculum.
    • Participates in special education procedures which include but are not limited to student discipline, parental involvement, annual reviews, CST and IEP meetings.
    • Maintains appropriate information about students and compiles necessary records.
    • Supervises extracurricular activities as assigned by the administration.
    • Performs other appropriate duties and responsibilities as assigned by the building principal and the District Superintendent.
    • Reports to the Building Principal.
    • Collaborates with team members to oversee student achievement data collection and data dissemination to teachers.
    • Collaborates with team members in the implementation of reading and math intervention programs and Common Core curriculum.
    • Assist the district’s elementary teachers in the implementation of the Common Core standards.
    • Collaborates with team members to coordinate district training, Response to Intervention, model practices and implementation for staff.
    • May act as liaison with related grants and mentors.

    • Knowledge of state and local policies and laws that refer to student discipline and education.

    Instructional Coach

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Demonstrate willingness to assume leadership positions.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of researched-based instructional strategies that engage all students.
    • Provide organized, individual and/or group learning opportunities for teachers as needed.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of reading and math curriculum as outlined by District No. 5 curriculum guides.
    • Provide support in analyzing student assessment data.
    • Assist teachers with designing instructional decisions based on assessment data.
    • Assist teachers with specific classroom activities when requested.
    • Assist teachers in creating materials that are in alignment with curriculum.
    • Monitor intervention programs reviewing data, observing and meeting with teachers.
    • Model lessons when appropriate.
    • Work creatively, cooperatively, and establishes positive relationships with colleagues and guardians students.
    • Participates in school and district professional development activities.
    • Attends building and district meetings as required.
    • Coordinate District (Star) and State (SBAC) assessments.
    • Coordinate Instructional technology programs.
    • Work with RTI team and staff to implement intervention plans.
    • Provide leadership for after school program and summer school plans
    • Substitute as needed for instructional staff to provide opportunities for classroom observations.
    • Use relevant data to make intervention recommendations.
    • Participate as a member school instructional teams including SIT teams.
    • Participate in parent-teacher conferences as requested.
    • Meet regularly and collaborate with District coaches.
    • Contribute to Professional Development and Early Release (Planning and Leadership).

    Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

    • Ability to implement standard based instruction and assessment, and reading interventions across K-5 setting.
    • Skill in the use of technology to enhance instruction and communication.
    • Ability to work as a contributing member of effective teaching teams.

    Additional Details:

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master’s degree in education or relevant subject, AND,
    • Valid Montana Administrator’s certification with appropriate administrative endorsements; AND,
    • Minimum of four years of teaching or equivalent certified experience.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Experience as an elementary administrator.
    • Evidence of continuing academic growth.
    • Experience in elementary teaching.
    • Experience working with Montana special education laws, policies and regulations.
    • Experience with behavioral and academic intervention strategies.
    • Reading endorsement.
    • Experience in instructional intervention approaches and practices.

    Physical Demands:

    • Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift, and carry items up to 40 pounds.
