Applications Programming Manager manages teams and implements policies and procedures related to the design, analysis, testing, coding, and implementation of applications. Enhances operations by establishing metrics, analyzing processes, and implementing standard methodologies, tools, and best practices to ensure high-quality deliverables. Being an Applications Programming Manager reviews development proposals, projects, timelines, resources, and costs. Leads feedback processes for peer reviews, code reviews, and design reviews. Additionally, Applications Programming Manager establishes a performance culture by incorporating individual and team coaching and mentoring to achieve excellence. May manage outsourcing budgets, vendors, or off-shore resources. Typically requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a director. The Applications Programming Manager manages subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. True first level manager. Ensures that project/department milestones/goals are met and adhering to approved budgets. Has full authority for personnel actions. To be an Applications Programming Manager typically requires 5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor. 1 - 3 years supervisory experience may be required.     Primary Purpose of Position:     
    The Manager of Music Programming works in partnership with the Director of Performing Arts & Film on a variety of responsibilities related to the music programs at the Museum.  

    Key Responsibilities:  
    • Collaborate inter-departmentally, specifically with curators, to program (curate and book) and produce music-related/musical experiences throughout the year that highlight collections and exhibitions in the Museum’s galleries and activate the Museum Park.
    • Manage production of all music/music-related programs in the department.
    • Curate and drive the booking process for 40% of the Museum’s multi-season (Spring to Fall) outdoor concert series, ensuring the season reflects well-founded and diverse musical acts and bookings are confirmed 3 to 9 months in advance.
    • Develop annual budget for music-related/musical experiences (concerts and music events). Manage event budgets and ensure timely payment of contractors.
    • Negotiate offers based on pre-approved budget and record confirmations and declines in database. Work with talent/artists, agents, contracts administrator and Museum’s CFO to contract musical artists.
    • Develop and/or maintain relationships with local, regional, and/or national agents, artist management, and promoters.
    • Develop strategic local and state-wide partnerships that allow for on-site and off-site programming.
    • Collaborate with the Manager of Films & Lecture Programs to produce quarterly academic lecture/music performances.
    • Coordinate and communicate the production schedules of music-related/musical experiences with internal stakeholders, production crew, and artist management team(s) 30-60 days in advance of event, with final updates the day before the event.
    • Arrange and coordinate transportation, lodging, merchandise sales, and hospitality for performers.
    • Coordinate with other Museum departments (Visitor Experience, Membership, Marketing, Security, Housekeeping, Facilities) for concert production.
    • Partner with Marketing & Communications department to develop promotional concepts and to promote music-related experiences.
    Job Requirements
    • Must have ability to work a flexible schedule as needed for Museum events and programs (long hours including weekends, nights, and some holidays may be required).

    Qualified candidates must have or be able to:  
    • Demonstrated experience in producing music programs (including talent booking, concert promotion, and/or negotiating contracts).
    • Demonstrated experience managing budgets.
    • Demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of music including knowledge of current musical artists and/or trends across genres.
    Management Preferences:
    • Demonstrated excellent verbal and/or writing skills along with strong communication and analytical skills.
    • Demonstrated diplomacy and/or ability to cooperate with varied personalities.
    • Demonstrated flexibility and/or even temperament when under pressure.
    • Demonstrated ability to change priorities with ease when necessary.
    • Strong desire to continually improve programming and to appeal to new audiences.

    Bachelor’s degree in music, business administration, theater/performance administration, ethnomusicology or related field.
    AND
    five years of related experience in the area of assignment;
    OR
    equivalent combination or education and experience.
