Annuities Supervisor (New Business) supervises a group of Annuities Representatives responsible for handling the needs of new applicants. Ensures compliance with all regulations and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations which pertain to annuities applications. Being an Annuities Supervisor (New Business) is responsible for handling the more complicated client service issues such as contract exceptions or complaints referred by staff. May be responsible for developing or improving annuities application processes in order to facilitate the acquisition of new business. Additionally, Annuities Supervisor (New Business) requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager or head of a unit/department. The Annuities Supervisor (New Business) supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/ production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be an Annuities Supervisor (New Business) typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.     Virginia American Water has an immediate opening for a Supervisor, New Business! If you have Knowledge of Engineering principles related to water and wastewater system design and construction. Knowledge of underground construction. Knowledge of the regulated water/wastewater business within the region then this role is for YOU! APPLY TODAY for immediate consideration!

    Primary Role

    Supervise, coordinate and administer the new water and wastewater system construction programs.

    Key Accountabilities

    • Interface with developers, developer engineers/contractors, company engineers and operations associates and state/local regulatory bodies to ensure efficient installation of new water and wastewater projects. (10%)
    • Coordinate with Division Manager and the state Director of New Business Development regarding system growth opportunities. (10%)
    • Administer the developer-install and Company-install water and wastewater construction program for new developments. (10%)
    • Review and approve new development plans to ensure the proposed system meets company and regulatory standards. (10%)
    • Research and develop growth opportunities for the company and coordination of those opportunities. (10%)

    • Ensure inspection during construction and that as-built information is recorded and tracked properly.
    • Implement and foster the coaching and development of employees, including idea generation, within respective functional areas.
    • Supports manger to ensure effective people management policies and practices are developed and implemented (e.g., time and attendance, workforce management, etc.) and ensure resources are developed and deployed appropriately.
    • Continue to reinforce the importance of developing a diverse workforce.
    • Work collaboratively with other functional leads to mitigate business risks.
    • Implement effective communications at all levels of our operations.
    • Provide effective leadership that will enhance our abilities to be flexible to changing business environments.
    • Contribute to effective communication by listening and providing constructive feedback; supporting the creation of an open and honest work environment; cascading and sharing knowledge and information relevant to other members of the team and colleagues across the business. (40%)

    Certifications and Licenses

    • Active state driver's license required with the ability to pass a motor vehicle report.
    • PMP or PE licensure preferred.

    Knowledge/Skills

    • Knowledge of Engineering principles related to water and wastewater system design and construction.
    • Knowledge of underground construction.
    • Knowledge of the regulated water/wastewater business within the region and the regulations impacting the business as well as applicable regulations, requirements, and trends within water/wastewater business.
    • Knowledge of company policies and procedures and management theories, practices, and trends.
    • Basic budgeting and utility accounting.
    • Ability to read drawings.

    Experience/Education

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Construction or Environmental Engineering preferred.
    • Associates Degree could be considered.
    • At least four (4) years professional experience in the water/wastewater field with at least two (2) years concentration in utility or land development work preferred.
