Anesthesia Technician assists Anesthesiologist by setting-up equipment and preparing medications. Orders, stocks, tests, and maintains anesthesia supplies, medications, and equipment. Being an Anesthesia Technician washes and sterilizes re-usable equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate personnel. Performs safety checks on anesthesia equipment and assists the Anesthesiologist as needed. Additionally, Anesthesia Technician may also be required to complete Anesthesia Technician trainee program. May require an associate degree or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. The Anesthesia Technician works under moderate supervision. Under general supervision, the Anesthesia Technician’s 2 primary responsibility is to maintain all anesthesia service areas in readiness for use by Anesthesiologists and Anesthetists. The service areas include all operating rooms and satellite areas in which anesthesia services are provided (e.g. MRI, ICU, OB etc.). The Anesthesia Technician 2 is responsible for anesthesia equipment and supplies as described in this job description and is accountable to the Anesthesia OR Support Supervisor. The Anesthesia Technician 2 must be able to work independently and be able to make decisions and set priorities with some guidance. The Anesthesia Technician 2 is responsible for knowledge of and compliance with all applicable infection control, health and safety policies and procedures as implemented by the department and/or work unit. Additionally, adherence to departmental policies and procedures, including telephone and house standards is required. The Anesthesia Technician 2 may assist Anesthesiologists with patient positioning and transport, preparation of sterile fields, placement of invasive monitoring lines, application of regional, epidural and spinal anesthesia techniques and invasive and noninvasive procedure setups. This position is located at ZSFG.
