Aerospace Engineer researches and develops structural engineering specifications for aerospace products, parts, or associated operations to improve the efficiency and reliability of aerospace systems. Analyzes results of stress tests on various craft and missile parts to determine material durability and tolerances. Being an Aerospace Engineer oversees flight tests of prototypes and analyzes resulting data to validate flight characteristics and identify necessary improvements. Conducts calculations and utilizes simulations to evaluate aerodynamics, structural integrity, propulsion efficiency, and the effect on fuel consumption of new or existing materials. Additionally, Aerospace Engineer utilizes CAE, 3-D, and digital modeling to create detailed plans and specifications to support production. Assists quality assurance and purchasing teams with the evaluation of new or existing suppliers, products and materials, or technologies. Understands and complies with all federal regulatory requirements and specifications. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to a manager. The Aerospace Engineer work is closely managed.     Collins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to lead a team of systems engineers working on a complex avionics computing subsystem. In this role, you will lead a cross-functional team of engineers as they collaborate to specify, design, integrate, verify, and validate components of the subsystem. The ideal candidate will have experience as a project engineer (PE) and control account manager (CAM) successfully leading a team of systems engineers through the full development lifecycle.

    Responsibilities:

    • Lead the full life cycle of systems engineering activities (planning, execution, integration, verification, and validation) ensuring compliance with system requirements.
    • Perform Control Account Manager (CAM) tasks for the portion of the budget they control. Responsible for documenting various program activities, such as technical and engineering execution risk management, earned value, and action item capture and closure.
    • Identify skills needed and request the staffing necessary to implement the defined plan while maintaining close coordination with the engineering manager.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, firmware, and software teams, along with program managers, to manage program dependencies and schedules.
    • Develop and maintain comprehensive execution plans, schedules, and documentation, ensuring clear communication and understanding among stakeholders.

    Qualifications/Experience Needed:

    • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 10 years of relevant experience.

    • Experience in systems engineering with a significant focus on leading teams of engineers
    • Proven track record as a PE/CAM in the aerospace, defense, or a closely related industry.
    • Deep understanding of system design, development, and integration processes.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams, management, and external stakeholders.
    • Familiarity with industry standards and regulations, such as ARP4754A/B (Guidelines for Development of Civil Aircraft Systems), DO-178B/C (Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification) or DO-254 (Design Assurance Guidance for Airborne Electronic Hardware).

    The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
