Addiction Mental Health Assessor conducts initial and ongoing assessments of patients in Alcohol and Drug (AoD) addiction programs to determine mental health needs and establish care requirements. Provides initial treatment and refers clients to appropriate agencies/providers as needed. Being an Addiction Mental Health Assessor works with patients and families to develop appropriate chemical dependency service plans. Complies with standards in the area of evaluation, assessment, treatment, and service delivery to clients. Additionally, Addiction Mental Health Assessor requires certification as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) or similar. Typically requires a bachelor's degree. May require a state license to practice. Typically reports to a supervisor or manager. Addiction Mental Health Assessor's years of experience requirement may be unspecified.     Job Duties:  

    • Performs work tasks as an Addiction Counselor in areas of assessments; group, individual, and family counseling; lectures; crisis intervention; and outcome reports. 
    • Maintain program record keeping in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with program and state requirements. 
    • Provide services in a manner that could involve both face to face and/or via telehealth.
    • Conduct diagnostic/placement assessments; provide group, individual, and family counseling services, client lectures, and case management services, in accordance with best clinical practices, laws, and administrative rules. 
    • Under supervision of licensed clinical professional counselor or clinical social worker, identify, coordinate, and/or provide direct care to consumers with co-occurring disorders. 
    • Offer crisis stabilization services, as needed. Refer individuals to needed adjunct services and/or appropriate level of care. 
    • Provide training and presentations to community groups and agencies on related substance abuse topics.
    • Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with federal and state laws.  
    • Reports to the Addictions Licensed Program Supervisor.
    • Minimum of 8-10 hours per week

    • $15/15 minute billable unit
    • Open to in-person and remote client access.

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    Comprehensive knowledge of addiction, theoretical models of therapeutic change processes, and best clinical practices; primary Axis I and II diagnoses; group theory and practice; instructional techniques; family education and support; working knowledge of assessment procedures, including diagnostics and placement; knowledge of laws and administrative rules relevant to chemical dependency, mental health, and confidentiality; of community resources and referral procedures; and thorough knowledge of ethical performance standards and their application. 

     

    Education & Experience: 

    • An Associate or bachelor’s degree in alcohol and drug studies, psychology, counseling, or a related field from an accredited university is required. 
    • Must be licensed as an Addiction Counselor. 
    • An equivalent combination of study and experience; 2000 hours of supervised work experience in chemical dependency counseling and certification. 
    • Must have a valid driver’s license, valid vehicle insurance and personal vehicle. 
    • Excellent computer and communication skills. 
    • In addition, dual license LCPC or LCSW is preferred.
