Accounts Payable Clerk supports the day-to-day operational activities of an accounts payable department. Reviews purchase orders, statements, and invoices to verify amounts owed. Being an Accounts Payable Clerk records and processes payments for vendor invoices in accordance with internal accounting policies and oversees payment schedules. Maintains and reconciles accounts payable ledger to validate charges and ensure accurate and timely payments. Additionally, Accounts Payable Clerk responds to vendor inquiries and assists with the research of any discrepancies in billings and payments. May utilize accounting software and systems to manage invoices and payments. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Accounts Payable Clerk works under moderate supervision. Gaining or has attained full proficiency in a specific area of discipline. Position Summary
The Institute for Justice, the national law firm for liberty, is seeking an Accounts Payable Clerk (A/P Clerk) at its headquarters in Arlington, Virginia, to support its Finance team.
The A/P Clerk reports directly to the Accounting Manager and is responsible for the overall payables process to ensure that company expenditures & payments are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.

- Strong ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with employees and vendors in a professional manner.
- Ability to work independently and with a team in a fast-paced and high-volume environment with emphasis on accuracy and timeliness.
- Process accounts payable timely, accurately using proper accounting principles and in compliance with financial policies and tax regulations.
- Process staff expense reports for reimbursement timely and review compliance with travel and reimbursement policies.
- Process staff corporate credit card reports timely and review compliance with travel and credit card policies
- Communicate with vendors/staff regarding payment status, discrepancies, and queries
- Maintain updated vendor records including contracts, tax forms, and payment information.
- Prepare and process the check payment processing activities, which occurs weekly.
- Process 1099 Forms
- Perform other tasks as assigned.
- Bachelor degree or associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
- 1-2 years of accounts payable experience, preferred
- Experience with accounting software and proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly excel. Experience with Intacct and Concur, preferred.
