Accounting Director directs the operations and policies of an accounting function. Implements accounting policies and procedures that adhere to governmental, financial, and tax regulations and comply with GAAP and IFRS standards. Being an Accounting Director monitors and evaluates accounting systems and processes to identify areas for improvement and optimization. Oversees overall monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting close processes and reporting. Additionally, Accounting Director develops and directs accounting professionals and supports staff through subordinate managers. Requires a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance. May require Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Typically reports to a head of accounting. The Accounting Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. Duties:
Leads and supervises our team of Accounting Managers and Accounting Staff to meet organization goals and expectations.
Annual Budget:
Establish the annual budget schedule in consultation with management.
Outline tasks, allocate resources, engage management, and produce documentation.
Present the budget to the IFA Board for approval.
Address budget-related inquiries throughout the year.
Implement and upgrade software solutions to enhance budgeting processes.
Monthly Financial Reporting:
Ensure monthly financial reporting schedule is followed.
Assign responsibilities and communicate reporting formats.
Present financial reports to the IFA Board for approval.
Loan Servicing Group Management:
Maintain policies and procedures manual for loan servicing.
Collaborate with general counsel to develop and maintain standard loan documents.
Prepare loan reserve and valuation estimates following government accounting guidelines.
Oversee support staff in collecting and tracking insurance and financial statements, ensuring timely follow-up with borrowers.
Internal Control Framework (ICF):
Lead the creation, maintenance, and documentation of the ICF.
Ensure adherence to the ICF across the organization.
Provide a Management Representation Letter on internal controls during the annual financial audit.
Annual Audit Process:
Oversee audit work and review work papers. Manage auditor relationships.
Prepare and submit the Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR).
Federal and State Reporting:
Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting
Submit required information for the State of Iowa Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) and Single Audit.
Facilitate federal agency information requests and program audits.

The Accounting Director position is a non-merit, non-contract covered position that is classified by the State of Iowa as an IFA Comptroller. This position is exempt (salaried) per FLSA regulations.
