Accountant maintains financial records and ensures that financial transactions are properly recorded. Ensures the accuracy of entries to ledger accounts and reconciles subsidiary ledger accounts to the general ledger. Receipts revenue from various departments; balances revenue on hand against receipts; examines receipts for accuracy and completeness and prepares daily bank deposits.
Prepares work papers for annual financial audit as assigned.
Prepares various notes, exhibits, schedules, and tables for Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
Financial Analysis and Accounting
Maintains escheat listing and files annual report to state.
Reconciles monthly bank statements for trust accounts, lockbox and central depository.
Recommends and assist in the implementation of County-wide goals and objectives; provides training to service areas regarding policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy and efficiency of accounting related processes.
Prepares wires for payment which includes weekly reimbursements to Union County Public Schools, monthly payments for Workers Compensation claims, and contributions to the Separation Allowance Trust.
Reconciles the annual Sales Tax report for Union County to receive reimbursement from the State.
Prepares monthly Sales and Use Tax report.
Verifies and records monthly sales tax received from NCDOR.
Maintains and reconciles fixed asset records and coordinates fixed asset inventory with departments.
Prepares and reviews documents of original entry into the asset database.
Prepares reports and file maintenance for fixed assets.
Prepares fixed asset audit reports, researches invoices to determine value property to be considered a fixed asset.
Maintains record keeping capturing disposed or transferred items for each department and evaluates depreciation methods and useful lives of the fixed assets.
Maintains depreciation schedules, with updates.
Reconciles property tax transactions to verify balance sheet accounts tie back to the revenue accounts and associated subsidiary ledger trial balances.
Analyzes and records property tax transactions; balances the associated subsidiary ledger trial balances to the general ledger.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business or Public Administration, Accounting or other closely related field, and two (2) years of accounting experience performing financial analysis and reconciliations, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Business or Public Administration, Accounting or other closely related field, and two (2) years of accounting experience performing financial analysis and reconciliations in a governmental setting.
Licenses or Certifications:
North Carolina Certified Finance Officer
Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to maintain a safe driving history as defined by the Union County Vehicle Use Policy.
Special Requirements:
Knowledge of Munis Software.
