Welder joins, fabricates, and repairs metal and other weldable material by applying appropriate welding techniques. Interprets blueprints, specifications, diagrams or schematics to determine appropriate welding process. Being a Welder inspects completed welds to determine structural soundness. Familiar with and complies with all safety requirements and protocols for working in a hazardous environment. Additionally, Welder may prepare the materials and set up for a welding device or robot. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Welder works under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area. Possesses a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job.     Description

    A Welder Fabricator 1 will be responsible for fabricating and constructing high-quality metal components for GE Johnson projects.

    • Support and adhere to safety standards and initiatives. Participate in Stretch and Flex and attend Toolbox Talks. Identify job activity hazards and complete daily Top 5. Assist with the completion of Job Hazards Analysis (JHA), hot work permits, and pre-task plans, as requested. Adhere to housekeeping standards and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) requirements. Identify safety hazards on the job and work to address them as appropriate; handle the concerns or escalate to Leadman/Foreman. Safety handle chemicals/ solvents/unsafe materials (cleaning supplies, gasoline, silica, paint). Follow safety protocol; inspect and maintain safety gear, equipment, and tools.
    • Learn and apply proper tool and equipment usage in completing metal work. Drill holes in metal, concrete, and masonry structure. Locate and mark reference points. Dig postholes and erect ornamental fencing.
    • Assemble metal work, including structural ironwork and opening framing. Weld brackets to lintels, sills, columns or other structural framework. Create bolted and welded connections while erecting structural steel framing members. Bolt, clip, and weld ironwork. Bolt newel posts, balusters, and other stairway parts/rails to supports; embed in sockets.
    • Install metal work, structural ironwork/joist/deck, and opening framing, including metal windows and door frames. Stage and sequence steel pieces according to erection plans for hoisting and framing. Measure and mark layout for installation. Set and check elevations. Connect ironwork to brackets, anchors, and existing structures. Verify installs are level and plumb. Install cover plates and molding with metal screws.
    • Follow directions and adhere to company procedures. Apply an understanding of construction/welding terminology and industry to execute with excellence. Submit time entry daily. Comprehend and apply instructions and ask questions as needed. Remain open and flexible to changes. Seek clarity from Foreman or Leadman as needed.
    • Manage work and self by noting work to be completed each day, completing tasks safely, demonstrating a willingness to assist with other tasks, as needed, and staying focused and motivated to build with excellence.
    • Coordinate with other trades. Communicate with trade partners to coordinate work to be completed and ensure work flows smoothly. Escalate any issues or concerns, as needed.
    • Actively seek career and professional growth. Attend company and/or industry trainings and offerings. Set personal performance and learning goals during performance Actively seek professional development, as appropriate.
    • Represent the GE Johnson brand, ethics, and values. Model desired performance, professionalism, conduct and behaviors. Serve as an example on the jobsite. Foster collaboration and teamwork. Take initiative and responsibility for work quality.

    Compensation Range

    • $24.00 - $33.00

    Required Education And Experience

    • Experience using templates, square, transit, laser, level, plumb bob, transit, posthole digger
    • Experience operating welder, torch, power tools, hand tools
    • Experience operating off-road forklift, aerial boom, and scissor lift

    Preferred Education And Experience

    • High School Diploma
    • Previous experience assembling metal work
    • Experience reading fabrication and erection drawings
    • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 training completion
