    Part-Time Organizer Fort Belknap MT

    Western Native Voice Inc. (WNV) is a non-profit organization under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code, formed in July 2022. We are committed to inspiring Native leadership so our communities flourish. We provide the information and tools necessary to empower citizens to have a voice and an impact on the decisions affecting their lives. We strive to protect the rights of Native American tribes and individuals through leadership development, education, advocacy, and civic engagement to promote social, racial, gender, economic, and environmental justice to preserve our land, culture, and way of life for future generations. All WNV employees are expected to adhere to this mission.

    Staff Role Within the Organization

    The Organizer will be under the supervision of the Outreach and Field Director and will assist in carrying out field operations. This work will directly focus on improving our members’ ability to participate in the organization and effect change for Native populations across seven Montana reservations and in urban areas of Montana. There will be a focus on the urban areas of Billings and Great Falls, MT. The Organizer position will coordinate the WNV member volunteers and field staff in Montana by developing collective, collaborative, coherent strategies to achieve the organization’s goals. Organizers will implement all their skills and knowledge to assist the Field and Outreach Director in strategizing, problem-solving, and allocating resources to accomplish the Board of Directors' goals. This position will be part-time and non-exempt.

    While each employee at Western Native Voice has their own individual work assignments and duties, the entire staff works together as a team to accomplish the goals set in the collaborative strategic plan. Organizers are critical to the success of Western Native Voice because they represent the organization’s interests in matters involving Tribal, State, and Local governments for Western Native Voice.

    Key Responsibilities

    Organizers are responsible for assisting the Field and Outreach Director in the following:

    • Community Outreach:
    • Implement outreach strategies (Online Voter Registration Kiosks, Tabling, Door knocking, phone/text, etc.) to engage diverse community members in civic activities.
    • Build relationships with local organizations, leaders, and community groups to enhance collaboration and participation.
    • Volunteer Management:
    • Manage volunteers to support various civic engagement initiatives.
    • Foster a sense of community and teamwork among volunteers to enhance overall effectiveness.
    • Voter Registration and Education:
    • Lead efforts to register voters and provide information on voting processes, deadlines, and requirements.
    • Distribute educational materials to raise awareness about civic rights and responsibilities.
    • Data Management and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of community engagement activities and participant information.
    • Generate regular reports to measure civic engagement initiatives' impact and identify improvement areas.
    • Assist with other duties as assigned.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred qualifications include experience in community organizing, civic engagement, or related fields involving:

    • Tabling at Events: Setting up booths, engaging attendees, and distributing information at community gatherings.
    • Attending Community Meetings: Actively participating in forums, understanding concerns, and contributing ideas.
    • Conducting Presentations: Delivering engaging talks or workshops to inform and inspire.
    • Strong Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
    • Clear Communication: Effectively conveying ideas in various forms to supervisors and the public.
    • Active Listening: Attentively understanding others' perspectives and concerns.
    • Empathy: Connecting with and understanding others' emotions and experiences.
    • Conflict Resolution: Diplomatically handling disagreements and finding common ground.
    • Building Relationships: Cultivating rapport with diverse individuals or groups.
    • Computer Skills:
    • Proficiency in Google applications and general software.
    • Technical Proficiency: Managing files, troubleshooting, and basic to advanced computer operations.
    • Data Management: Effectively handling and organizing data using spreadsheets or databases.
    • Internet Research: Efficiently conducting accurate research using online resources.
    • Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
    • Familiarity with local community dynamics and issues.
    • Adaptability, Versatility, Open-mindedness, Resilience: Ability to adjust to changes, handle diverse tasks, consider new perspectives, remain composed in challenges, and collaborate effectively.
    • Team Player: Seamless collaboration and readiness to take on various roles as required.

    • Demonstrate heartfelt commitment to the improvement of Native American communities, encompassing both rural and urban areas in Montana.
    • Available for travel overnight, statewide up to 7 nights at one time, and work on weekends.
    • Access to reliable transportation.
    • Maintain a professional and positive public appearance, including on social media.
    • Must be able to pass a background check.
    • Should have a valid driver’s license.
    • Must have a clean driving record for insurance purposes.
    • Ability to lift/carry/push/pull 20 to 50 lbs.

    Compensation

    The Organizer position is a part-time, non-exempt position. Compensation will be $17/hr - $20/hr DOE.

    • Generate regular reports to measure civic engagement initiatives' impact and identify improvement areas.
    • Assist with other duties as assigned.
