This employee will serve as the Social Media Coordinator (SMC). - Employee will work with social media contributors and SCDNR staff to ensure all major events, seasons, deadlines and program activity is highlighted.
- Developing and maintaining reporting and analytics measures to validate the effectiveness and impact of visual and digital communications efforts as they relate to the execution of the agency's social media strategy.
- Making recommendations for improvement to SCDNR's use of social media to communicate with the public and promote awareness of the agency's mission, vision, and activities.
- Archiving and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) duties related to SCDNR's social media presence and activities.
- Regularly monitoring SCDNR's social media presence to interact with users and provide necessary follow-up.
- Supporting the Office of External Affairs team by participating in outreach/education and other special events, such as the Palmetto Sportsmen's Classic (PSC), Southeastern Wildlife Exposition (SEWE), and others as requested.
- Providing social media posts, both traditional and live from these events.
- A bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, or Digital Media. Three (3) years experience in the administration of government social media.
- Professional writing skills and the ability to gather, synthesize, write, edit, evaluate and distribute timely information.
- Skills and abilities related to using text, graphics, photography, video, and social media as appropriate methodologies to emphasize and promote the agency's role, mission and purpose.
- Strong background in natural resources and an understanding of scientific theory.
- Knowledge of agency programs, policies, and procedures.
- Ability to gather, organize and present oral and written information in a clear, concise and accurate manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the news media and general public.
- Ability to effectively research and gather information along with thinking critically and analytically.
- Ability to understand the communication processes in diverse cultural, social, legal, and ethical contexts.
- Good interviewing and people skills, a self starter and ability to prioritize workload.
